  • Dungeoneering Guide Fixes and Updates: The response to the Ultimate Skill Guide to Dungeoneering has been incredible so far! I'm glad everyone likes it so much. I've responded to feedback and comments about mistakes and made a number of fixes to the guide. I also made some changes due to minor changes made by Jagex, such as the ability of the bonecrusher to handle bones from Hunter, and added many more links to summary tables for easier navigation.

  • Dungeoneering "Cheat Sheet": The Dungeoneering guide contains a huge amount of information, but it's on many pages. Experienced players need to have key reference materials and tables at hand when going through dungeon floors, so I've created a special Dungeoneering "Cheat Sheet". This page contains a summary of essential information from the rest of the guide, extra short-form tips for bosses, and key reference tables. It also has dozens of links for fast reference to other parts of the guide. Enjoy!

May 22, 2010:

  • All RuneScoop Content Now Free: I have made a major realignment in the operation of RuneScoop, with the most significant change being that all content is now free for viewing by everyone. For a full explanation of the reasons why I have done this, along with a special message to current RuneScoop members, please see this entry on my RuneScoop Soapbox blog (it was too long to post here). With this change, all readers can now access the following:

I am maintaining the concept of membership on RuneScoop, but it will now change focus from one of unlocking content to providing support for the site and gaining special recognition and benefits; this is reflected in the membership page.

  • New Navigation Box: There is now a navigation box, similar to the one on the left-hand part of this page, on all content pages on RuneScoop. Hopefully this will let all of you move between parts of the site more easily. The box automatically links to the non-member or member pages depending on which part of the site you are on.

  • The Ultimate Skill Guide - Dungeoneering: While many of you have been "no-lifing" RuneScape's newest skill, I have instead been "no-lifing" a new guide to it. And just as Dungeoneering is unlike any skill we've ever seen, so is the Ultimate Skill Guide to Dungeoneering. It has a depth of coverage, detail and level of quality that I believe is unparalleled in the world of RuneScape guides. A few highlights:

    • Almost 200 pages and well over 100,000 words of original content cover every Dungeoneering subject.

    • Provides a full explanation of important concepts like prestige, complexity levels, difficulty settings, binding and much more.

    • Full explanations of dungeon structures, rooms, doors and contents.

    • Overview and details of the entire dungeon raid process, including advice on teamwork, leading a party, resource gathering, prayer management and lots, lots more.

    • Strategy and trade-off discussions and advice.

    • Pages describing all of the monsters in Daemonheim.

    • Complete analyses and combat techniques and advice for every boss.

    • Full guides to solving all challenge / puzzle rooms.

    • Reference tables for all resources and skills.

    • Special tables for handling problems with insufficient skill levels on doors/puzzles.

This guide represents over a month of full-time work. I hope you enjoy it!

April 27, 2010:

  • Update: Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been putting out updates as frequently as in prior months. There are a few reasons for this, so I thought I'd post this quick update.

First, I had to do some traveling in April, which always messes me up.

Second, I took a couple of weeks to think about RuneScoop and what I'm going to do with it going forward. Simply put, the model I am currently using is not working, and I will need to make some substantial changes in how I operate the site. I'll explain more about this next month.

Finally, I'm working on a very large guide that I think a lot of people will find useful: it's an extensive guide to the Dungeoneering skill. Because of how complex this skill is, it's taking a lot of time to document it properly, and of course I also have to spend a fair bit of time training it myself. I am hoping to have this released by the middle of May, and I think you'll find it was worth the wait. ;)

April 6, 2010:

  • Non-Paypal Membership Payment Option: I've had a few people tell me they want to sign up but can't pay by Paypal. First, note that Paypal doesn't require an account to pay, as far as I know; you can use a credit or debit card. For those that really can't pay in this manner, I'm now willing to accept payment via mail for annual subscriptions; please see the membership page for details.

  • New Monsters Added to RuneScoop Beastopedia: I added several new monsters to The RuneScoop Beastopedia, including chaos dwarf hand cannoneers and chaos dwogres, and living rock protectors and strikers. I'll be continuing to add newer monsters to the guide over the next few months.

  • RuneScoop Laboratory Report #8 -- Veracs Versus Zamorakian Spear, and the Value of Large Sample Size: After I published my extensive guide to mithril dragons, someone on the RuneScoop forums suggested that I test the Zamorakian spear to see how it compares to full Veracs (my preferred method). This was a pretty simple lab test then: Verac’s flail versus the Zamorakian spear, straight up. But as I did the test, I got a nice reminder of how important it is to do a lot of testing before jumping to conclusions (members' site version).

  • RuneScoop Laboratory Report #9 -- Assessing the Dragon Pickaxe: It’s the most powerful tool for Mining in the game, but it’s very expensive. Just how much better is it than a rune pickaxe? Is it worth the high cost? I spend a few hours smashing rocks to try to find out (members' site version).

  • RuneScoop Laboratory Report #10 -- Still "Strongly" Overrated: In my very first RuneScape lab report, I compared the berserker ring and warrior ring to try to see how important strength bonuses were, especially compared to accuracy bonuses. After the change to life points, many people wondered if the results I got the first time still applied, so I redid (and expanded) the test (members' site version).

March 25, 2010:

  • Hitpoints Out; Constitution and Life Points In: With this update I have fully revised the entire site to change references to Hitpoints into references to Constitution or life points, as appropriate. This took quite a while! I'm sure I missed a few, so if you find anything I didn't change, please feel free to let me know.

  • Free Version of The RuneScoop Beastopedia Now Available: As promised last month, I have now published a version of The RuneScoop Beastopedia on the free side of the site. This version contains all of the monsters in the members' only version, but only some of the information found on the members' side. It is still a very valuable resource, and this includes the many resource tables that let you identify good monsters to get certain items. I hope you enjoy it, and if you do, hope you'll try the members' version, which adds detailed descriptions of how to fight the monsters, as well as combat and drop logs.

Oh, I also added the first new monster to the Beastopedia since its overhaul: the aquanite.

  • RuneScoop Laboratory Report #7 -- Budget Crossbow Showdown: Broad-tipped bolts have become a popular choice for rangers on a budget, because they hit hard and don’t cost a lot. But they cost more than they used to, and I started to wonder just how good they are, and how they compare to some other inexpensive options (members' site version).

March 19, 2010:

  • The RuneScoop Laboratory Now Available for All Readers: I have decided to move The RuneScoop Laboratory over to the free side of the site. This is the part of RuneScoop is where I do tests and present my results, some of which are often quite interesting, and having them on the member's only side made discussion of my analyses difficult. It just makes more sense to have the information where everyone can see it. I am also hoping that having these reports readable by all will help get the site a bit more exposure, since relevant reports can be linked to here from other sites.

  • RuneScoop Laboratory Report #5 -- Penance Versus Apes: For those of us who hate training Agility, the prospect of being able to earn double Agility XP on courses as a reward for Barbarian Assault seemed very attractive. But is it worth doing? I kill a couple of queens and then take on the Ape Atoll course to find out (members' site version).

  • RuneScoop Laboratory Report #6 -- The Fascinating Truth About Kill Count at The Barrows: Everyone loves The Barrows—few other places let you earn great loot, gain XP and make money at the same time. But despite this activity having been around for over four years now, some of its mysteries remain. One of these is kill count: just how many of those annoying little critters in the tunnels should you kill before going for the chest? I conduct a detailed test and analysis to try to put the matter to rest once and for all—and the answer may change how you do The Barrows forever (members' site version).

  • Barrows Kill Count Optimization Guide: Based on the knowledge that I obtained in RuneScoop Laboratory Report #6, I have created a new members' only mini-guide that helps you pick the ideal kill count for The Barrows. It combines parameters that you specify for how you do the activity, with the latest market prices and essential data about the impact of kill count on item drop rates to produce a customized chart that will help you maximize how much you earn from each chest.

  • Miscellania Resource Optimization Guide Now Available for All Readers: I moved my mini-guide showing the best place to allocate resources for the kingdom of Miscellania over to the free site. This is a small and simple guide that addresses a common question -- "What should I put my workers on?" -- and I want to be able to refer players here, because the other guides I've seen on this subject are inaccurate and often misleading. Of course it remains on the members' site as well, where it is updated more frequently.

  • One Cent Membership Offer Continues: Just a reminder that the one-cent offer to try RuneScoop membership continues! Just sign up for a monthly subscription and the first month is just a penny (it would have been free, but Paypal works better if you don't have a charge of zero). If you don't feel that the value you get is worth a mere 13 or so cents a day, then just cancel before the month is up and pay nothing. You can't lose!

March 11, 2010:

  • Usability and Interface Improvements: After receiving quite a bit of feedback indicating that the site wasn't as easy to use as it could be, I made some small but hopefully useful changes to how pages and links are laid out. Most notably:

    • The ugly and cumbersome collection of social networking buttons on the left of the main part of the site has been removed.

    • The buttons that linked to RuneScoop content have also been removed and replaced by two sets of links to content sections. These should be much more readable and usable, and I've also included more links to specific content areas.

    • The table of contents for both the non-members' and members' sites have been modified to remove superfluous prefixes that were making them very repetitive. The same has been done to subsection lists on individual pages.

Hope these changes will help make the site easier for you to enjoy! (Note that some readers may need to do a hard refresh via Ctrl+F5 or restart their browsers to see the new navigation links properly.)

  • Summoning Pouch and Scroll Efficiency Guide: You’ve killed waterfiends, you’ve trained Slayer, and you find yourself with hundreds or even thousands of Summoning charms. You’re ready to make pouches, or maybe scrolls, but which ones? Some give more XP than others, but at what cost? And what should you do with the items after you make them? This new guide will tell you. (It's for RuneScoop members only, but remember, you can try membership for just a penny for the first month!)

March 4, 2010:

  • Slight Change to Free Membership Offer: It seems Paypal doesn't work properly (in terms of sending notifications) when a new subscription is created with a free initial month. So I changed it so the first month costs one cent. Hopefully that won't put anyone off. :)

  • Try RuneScoop Membership for Free! Interested in checking out the newly revised Beastopedia? Or trying your hand at getting lots of herbs using the new Aberrant Spectre Cannoning Guide, just in time for the upcoming Bonus XP Weekend? Want to make lots of money following the tips on the RuneScoop Inside Scoop Blog? Well now you can try RuneScoop membership absolutely free! Just sign up for a monthly subscription and the first month is on the house. If you don't feel that the value you get is worth a mere 13 or so cents a day, then just cancel before the month is up and pay nothing. You can't lose!

As part of this change, I have removed the single month only membership option, since it's no longer relevant. Also, to be fair, anyone who signed up for membership within the last month or so who would like a retroactive refund, just contact me and I'll take care of you.

March 3, 2010:

  • Aberrant Spectre Cannoning Guide: Got herbs? No? Well, want some? How about 150 to 200 herbs harralander or better in an hour, plus several dozen high level herb seeds (so you can grow even more), 80 to 100 charms, and other goodies as well—plus a boatload of Ranged XP while you get them? My guide to cannoning aberrant spectres, available exclusively to RuneScoop members, will tell you exactly how to do it!

  • Beastopedia Revision Complete! With this update I have finally completed going through and rewriting all of the monsters I originally wrote up when I initially wrote the Beastopedia in 2008. The all-new, revised RuneScoop Beastopedia is the most detailed bestiary for RuneScape on the net, and currently contains stats, pictures and instructions on how to efficiently fight 206 monsters.

As part of completing this task, I also updated all of the Slayer information in the Beastopedia, including adding in all of the tasks assigned by the new master, Kuradal.

I will now turn my attention to adding new monsters, including some of the more interesting new ones added to the game since the Beastopedia was originally created. Also look for a limited version of the Beastopedia for non-RuneScoop members, coming soon.

  • RuneScoop Laboratory Report #4 -- Does it Actually Have a Use? Last month, Jagex finally revealed how the ring of wealth functions. Many players were happy that they did this, but displeased to learn that the ring had no impact on the probability of getting the rare items they most wanted. The ring only increases the chance of getting a special item from the rare drop table, which rarely comes into play with most monsters, so it was quickly written off as being “useless”. But could it be possible that there’s at least one place where the ring is not only not useless, but a no-brainer for the ring slot?

  • Evening Constitutional: Today's big RuneScape update was going online just as I was finalizing mine. I will wait a few days to assess the impact of the changes, especially ones that impact guides like the replacement of Hitpoints with Constitution and Life Points. The site will be updated to reflect the new stats, of course (though I probably will not retake all of the old screenshots!)

February 22, 2010:

  • The RuneScoop Combat Efficiency Mini-Guide: Recent changes to RuneScape, such as staves that increase magic damage, and new extreme potions, have made magic combat a more viable option. Unfortunately, they’ve also made the skill much more complicated. The Combat Spell Efficiency Guide -- which is available for both members and non-members -- will help you determine which combination of spell and staff provides either the fastest or the most cost-efficient kills, based on your Magic level, any boosting potions you are using, and the monster you are fighting.

  • Mini-Guides Section: Since there are now three mini-guides for members and two for non-members, to make things a little more organized I have grouped these into a mini-guides section, and changed the navigation buttons on the left side of the site.

  • Small Beastopedia Expansion: Another 8 new monsters have been added to the all-new, revised RuneScoop Beastopedia, the most detailed bestiary for RuneScape on the net. There are now 190 monsters in this guide, leaving only a handful of the original monsters I wrote up when the Beastopedia was initially published. Almost there!

February 12, 2010:

  • RuneScoop Monster Secrets: I am pleased to announce the return of the RuneScoop Monster Secrets series, which was one of the most popular features of my old site. This new section, exclusive to RuneScoop members, provides comprehensive guides to fighting some of the most difficult and most important monsters in the game. I relaunch the series with not one but two complete guides:

    • Mithril Dragon Guide: This was the first guide in the original Monster Secrets series, and so it is fitting that it should be the first guide here as well. The all-new Mithril Dragon Guide has been completely rewritten to take into account the latest items, supplies and techniques, and now contains six detailed methods for your dragon slaying pleasure.

    • Waterfiend Guide: Waterfiends aren't the toughest monsters in RuneScape by any means, but killing them quickly is important to those trying to get large numbers of charms for the Summoning skill. All new for RuneScoop, the Waterfiend Guide tells you exactly how to kill them fast while making a profit. It also includes a special guide to multicombat waterfiends that can yield 150 crimson charms per hour without the high cost of comparable methods.

  • Two New RuneScoop Laboratory Reports: As part of the development of my Waterfiend Guide, I did two scientific tests to compare equipment items related to killing them, with interesting results. Report #2, Sara and Zammy Have a Water Fight, contrasts two of the most popular weapon options for fighting waterfiends. And Report #3, "R" is for "Random", shows that sometimes tests don't turn out as expected, but I still tell it to you like it is.

  • Another Beastopedia Expansion: Another 16 new monsters have been added to the all-new, revised RuneScoop Beastopedia, the most detailed bestiary for RuneScape on the net. There are now 182 monsters in this guide, leaving only a few left of the original monsters I wrote up when the Beastopedia was initially published. All of these new monsters are above level 100 combat.

I am also ready to announce that once I have the initial version of the Beastopedia completely done, I will be implementing a limited form of its pages for non-RuneScoop members.

February 2, 2010:

  • The RuneScoop Soapbox Blog: I have transitioned the RuneScoop Soapbox from being a normal section on the site to a separate Wordpress blog, called (naturally enough) the RuneScoop Soapbox. The main reason I did this is that I like being able to write commentaries quickly based on game updates and other changes that happen in the short term, and the old system forced me to do a full site update every time I wanted to put up a new article. This new method will be more flexible, and also will permit easier linking and indexing of articles. You'll also be able to comment on the articles like any blog.

The Soapbox is available to all.

  • Upcoming Content Update: No changes to content this time, but I am working on something for later this week. Your hint: "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue".

January 27, 2010:

  • Major Beastopedia Expansion: I just added a whopping 40 new monsters to the all-new, revised RuneScoop Beastopedia, the most detailed bestiary for RuneScape on the net. There are now 166 monsters in this guide, which is getting close to the original total of 203 when the Beastopedia was first published. Most of the new monsters are from combat levels 90 to 110, and include popular beasties such as dust devils, aberrant spectres, gargoyles and blue dragons. This is a members only feature for now, and I will be continuing to add to it over time.

In addition to adding a bunch of new monsters, I also revised most of the resource pages in the Beastopedia, to fix certain issues and make sorting by column more accurate.

  • The RuneScoop Laboratory! I'm pleased to announce a new feature here at RuneScoop: the RuneScoop Laboratory. This members' only feature highlights specific gameplay tests that I undertake in order to compare equipment, learn important aspects of gameplay, and bust some of the myths that circulate around the game.

The first report, "Strongly" Overrated, focuses on the obssession many RuneScape players have with strength bonuses. They pay through the nose for gear that provides one or two extra strength points, and whine like babies whenever any gear is modified in such a way that reduces its strength bonus. But how much of a difference do a few strength points really make? You might be surprised.

  • The RuneScoop Soapbox #4 - No Wine Before Its Time: A now-famous catchphrase used during wine advertisements in the 1970s told customers that a winery would “sell no wine before its time”. This slogan conveys simply the idea that you can’t rush quality, and while software doesn’t need to be aged like wine, it too should not be released before it is ready. Read more (members only version).

January 19, 2010:

  • The RuneScoop Prayer Skill Optimization Guide! I'm very happy to announce the fourth section of the RuneScoop Skill Optimization Guide, to help you train Prayer. It follows the sections dedicated to Crafting, Fishing and Herblore, is also for RuneScoop members only, and goes far beyond the ordinary skill references you'll find on other sites.

I chose to do Prayer next because it is notoriously expensive, and a lot of players are trying to level the skill to take advantage of the new ancient curses. This new guide will let you compare methods such as burying, using a gilded altar, or using the Ectofuntus. It will also allow you to check what bones are the most cost-effective to use as prices change on a daily basis.

The Prayer Skill Optimization Guide will save you hours of real world time, and becoming a RuneScoop member is very easy and affordable. Join today!

  • The RuneScoop Soapbox #3: Why They Say You Don’t Play: High level players sometimes accuse Jagex developers of not playing their own game. This comment is unfair, but there’s a kernel of truth to it—it represents the frustration felt by players who believe that the company introduces content that it wouldn’t if its developers played the game seriously. Read more...

  • Another Beastopedia Expansion: I have added 19 more monsters to the all-new, revised RuneScoop Beastopedia, the most detailed bestiary for RuneScape on the net. This brings the total number of monsters to 126; most of the new additions are from combat levels 80 to 90. This is a members only feature for now, and I will be continuing to add to it over time.

  • Soul Wars Cape Update: One of the rewards from the new quest Nomad's Requiem is a blue or red cape that provides +8 to all defensive stats and +12 to Prayer. In my opinion, this is now the best overall cape for general combat in the game, especially when using prayer. I have made updates to both the members' version and the free version of the Dynamic Moneymaking Guide to reflect my recommendation to use this new cape for players with very high or extremely high skills. Certain descriptions have also been changed, and certain resource assumptions updated, but I am not retaking images that previously showed me using other capes.

  • Torstol "Hack": Demand for the herb torstol has gone through the roof due to its use in the new high-end overload potion. The GE price for grimy herbs has been trailing well behind the price for clean herbs, creating distortions in both the Moneymaking Guide and the Herblore optimization guide. I put in a miniature "hack" that will, for now, value grimy torstol at the same level as clean torstol. I'll undo this later if and when prices stabilize.

  • Changed Extreme Potion Values: The new extreme potions are untradeable, so I computed for them a value based on the utility of the potion both in actual use and as components to make overload potions. I didn't like the way I was doing this before, which was assigning them values that I thought were too high, so I made some adjustments. This primarily affects the Herblore Skill Optimization Guide.

January 13, 2010:

  • Soapbox #2: Putting the Cape Before the Horse: In my second Soapbox article (for members and non-members) I respond to the incessant whining from players who have come to believe that the quest cape is some sort of an entitlement. Because it isn’t. Oh, and the new quest isn’t that hard anyway.

January 8, 2010:

  • The RuneScoop Soapbox Returns: On my old site, I had a section I called the "Soapbox" where I posted editorials on various subjects, mostly related to gaming in general and RuneScape in particular. While I never thought that many people would care to read my rambling opinions, apparently I was mistaken, because I've been very surprised by the huge numbers of former readers who said they wanted me to resume writing editorial pieces.

Well, you got it! The Soapbox returns, for both members and non-members alike. Since this is a new site, I'm starting over with Issue #1, which is the first in what will be a multi-part examination of issues related to the RuneScape economy and the Grand Exchange. (I'll also be covering other issues as this series develops.) Enjoy!

  • The RuneScoop Crafting Skill Optimization Guide! I'm very happy to announce the third section of the RuneScoop Skill Optimization Guide, this time dedicated to the Crafting skill! Like the Fishing and Herblore guides, this component is for RuneScoop members only, and goes far beyond the ordinary skill references you'll find on other sites.

With so many different activities, trying to figure out how to train Crafting can be a bewildering endeavor. This new guide will help you figure out what items to make to level up the skill quickly and efficiently. Are you better off making dragonhide armor or power-training with regular leather? Is silver or gold the best metal to smelt at that furnace? Are there any oddball training methods you might not have considered? Now you'll know.

The Crafting Skill Optimization Guide will save you hours of real world time, and becoming a RuneScoop member is very easy and affordable. Join today!

  • Revision to Skill Activity Efficiency Indexes in the Skill Optimization Guide: Based on discussions with several RuneScoop forum members, and especially the suggestions of "null_soup", I have revamped how various skills are ranked in the RuneScoop Skill Optimization Guide. The new metrics do a much better job of helping you decide which activities are best for you, and have been put in place for both the new Crafting skill and the existing Fishing and Herblore skills as well. You can find details on this page in the Skill Optimization Guide Reference.

  • Beastopedia Expansion: I have added 35 more monsters to the all-new, revised RuneScoop Beastopedia, the most detailed bestiary for RuneScape on the net, bringing the total number of monsters to 107. Most of these are from combat levels 50 to 80, including such monsters as green dragons and aviansies. This is a members only feature for now, and I will be continuing to add to it over time.

  • Moneymaking Guide Update: I have again revised the members' version and the free version of the Dynamic Moneymaking Guide. There are two notable changes this time. First, I have replaced marigolds with limpwurt roots in all farming activities, since limpwurts are now more profitable, and they also give more XP. Second, I have changed all methods that used to use super energy potions to now use regular energy pots; when I first put the MM guide online, super energy potions were only about 2x the cost of regular energy potions, but thanks to the new Herblore potions, this ratio is now approaching 20x, and using regular energy potions makes more sense.

There are also some other minor changes, and the free version has been updated to use current prices again, something I will be aiming to do once a month. (The members' only version of course updates prices daily to keep pace with game trends and changes in item values.)

December 20, 2009:

  • The RuneScoop Herblore Skill Optimization Guide! I'm pleased to introduce the Herblore skill section of the RuneScoop Skill Optimization Guide. Like the original Fishing skill guide, this component is for RuneScoop members only, and goes far beyond the ordinary skill references you'll find on other sites.

Covering dozens of methods for cleaning herbs, making potions and more, it shows you at every level what all of your options are for training, how fast they are and how much they'll cost. Are you better off making prayer potions or super restores? Do all potions take the same amount of time to make? Is it true that you can't train Herblore without spending millions? (Hint: No!) Now you can find out!

The Herblore Skill Optimization Guide will save you hours of real world time in training this sometimes difficult skill. Join RuneScoop and get the advantage!

December 17, 2009:

  • The Beastopedia Returns! I have just put online the first installment of the all-new, revised RuneScoop Beastopedia! It will start out as a members only feature. In time, I will probably migrate some limited portion of its information over to the free site as well.

A bit of background on this is in order. The Beastopedia was one of the most popular features on my old site, a compendium of RuneScape monsters that contained far more details than ordinary bestiaries. Over the last month I've been working on updating all of the monsters in the Beastopedia, and adding a couple of new features to it as well.

There are over 200 monsters to do, though, and I realized the project was going to take far longer than I expected (especially given that I am working on other guides at the same time.) So I decided to put online the monsters I have done, and add to it over time. This also gives me more time to experiment with new features in RuneScape that will impact how I fight the tougher critters.

This initial relaunch of the Beastopedia includes the monsters from level 1 to 50 (72 monsters in all). Each monster was tested and edited to ensure its information is current given today's game conditions. Where appropriate, I created new drop logs. I have also added new explicit discussions of familiar recommendations and drops, and added a created/modified date so you can see when each monster was updated.

    Enjoy!

  • New Buttons: I have added a set of new buttons on the left side of the page here. One will connect RuneScoop members to the new Inside Scoop blog, a place to get the latest inside information from me on the state of the RuneScape economy and gameplay, including investment tips. The others will allow you to follow me on Twitter or Facebook.

December 8, 2009:

  • Moneymaking Guide Update: As promised, I have updated both the members' version and the free version of the Dynamic Moneymaking Guide. In addition to a bunch of minor corrections, I have redone the Runecrafting methods to reflect the ability of players to get extra runes between the standard "integer" multiple rune levels, and also updated the log planking methods, since it's now possible to take familiars on balloons.

I've also updated all the free methods to the latest versions and the latest GE prices. Enjoy!

December 7, 2009:

  • Introducing the RuneScoop Skill Optimization Guide! I'm pleased to announce the RuneScoop Skill Optimization Guide! This brand new guide, which is for RuneScoop members only, goes far beyond the ordinary skill references you'll find on other sites, by telling you what you really want to know: how fast are different skill activities and how much money do you make or need to spend for each one. Full descriptions of dozens of method/level combinations and daily price updates make this guide the place to turn before you start training. And it is for both F2P and P2P players!

The initial skill in the RuneScoop Skill Optimization Guide covers the Fishing skill. What's faster, salmon and trout or leaping fish? Is drop fishing really faster? Do you make more money from cavefish or shark? Is rocktail all it's cracked up to be? Become a member and find out!

  • Moneymaking Guide Status: I've been extremely busy with the new Skill Optimization Guide, along with various issues IRL, so I've fallen a bit behind on updating moneymaking methods. I will be working on that this week, including retesting of all runecrafting methods to reflect the new additional rune feature. I will also be updating the prices on the free version of the Moneymaking Guide this week.

November 24, 2009:

  • Moneymaking Guide Update: Based on feedback from many readers, I have revised the Dynamic Moneymaking Guide to include approximate XP figures for all activities that provide skill XP. Please bear in mind that this is only an approximation, since in some cases it is easy to calculate XP and in others it is really a rough guess. I also revised the Fishing activities to reflect more testing I've completed. And I added a new entry, for making coconut milk (which ranges from very profitable to a money-loser, depending on market conditions.)

The XP display will start out only on the member's side, and will propagate to the free guide when I do an update of the free guide next month.

  • General Status Update: I've been out of town dealing with some family issues for the last week, which is why I haven't updated recently. I'm working on two large new pieces of content for the site, at least one of which I hope to have online early next week. Stay tuned!

  • First Members' Only Guide! Everyone know the Kingdom of Miscellania is a great place to get raw materials or make money, but the big mystery is always: "Which resources should I have the workers gather?" Well, mystery solved! :) As a special thank you to those who have already signed up for RuneScoop membership, I have just completed my first members' only content: the RuneScoop Miscellania Resource Optimization Guide. This short guide includes a table, updated daily, which will show you where the best places are to send those workers. Enjoy!

  • Members' Changes to Moneymaking Guide: A reader kindly informed me that my Moneymaking Guide methods for gathering fruit could be improved, so I have optimized them. I also added a new method for chopping mahogany logs (which takes into account special logs as well). Check out where mahogany falls in the spectrum of Woodcutting methods... you may be pleasantly surprised!

  • Members' Only Site Now Online: The special site for RuneScoop members is now online, and can be accessed using the Members' Only Site links on the left. Anyone who has signed up should receive their access instructions by email shortly. If you do not, please contact me. Thanks for your patience.

  • Minor Update to Members' Only Site: I've been pretty busy getting the site going and fixing various issues, but I did add one item to the Moneymaking Guide for members: the limited methods list now includes getting free pure essence after completing portions of the Ardougne Achievement Diary. Of course the members' site also has been updated to the latest GE prices, and I am in the process of setting up the automatic updates for this that will occur on a nightly basis.

  • Welcome!  I want to welcome everyone to this new site! I hope you enjoy it and find it useful. As with any site I am sure there will be glitches and issues that need correcting, so please bear with me while I iron them out.

  • Introducing the RuneScoop Dynamic Moneymaking Guide!  To get the launch of this new site going with a splash, I am pleased to introduce the RuneScoop Dynamic Moneymaking Guide. This exciting tool lists over 100 methods and over 450 method variations for making money in RuneScape! These are explained in details, showing what it costs to do them and how much you'll earn. Dozens of indexes let you sort methods by profitability, look at certain types of methods, and much more. So the next time you get asked that old question—"What's the best way to make money?"—you'll have the answer: the RuneScoop Dynamic Moneymaking Guide!

  • The RuneScoop Healing Efficiency Guide: You know you need food to heal damage done in combat or from other activities such as Thieving. But with dozens of food items in RuneScape, which one should you choose? The RuneScoop Healing Efficiency Guide shows you all of the good healing methods in RuneScape, and ranks them based on how much they cost per HP of healing. With tables for both free players and members, showing both regular and "high quality" foods, you're sure to find it an indispensable aid to your gaming. Enjoy!
