Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Why Certain Methods Were Excluded From the Moneymaking Guide

One of the first decisions I had to make in creating the Dynamic Moneymaking Guide was which moneymaking methods to include, and which to exclude. Obviously I’d like the guide to be as comprehensive as possible, so my natural inclination is always to prefer that every method be in the guide. However, there are some moneymaking methods that did not make sense for me to include.

It turns out that there are several categories of methods that I excluded from this guide, often for rather distinct reasons. I’ll describe them below, so you know what to expect.

Unethical Methods

Since I greatly value ethical, responsible gameplay, I did not even consider any methods that involve behavior that does not live up to my standards. Examples of excluded “methods” here include:

  • Item scamming (which is much more difficult these days but still occurs).

  • Real world trading, i.e. buying RuneScape gold for real world cash.

  • Making money via price manipulation on the Grand Exchange.

If you are interested any of that sort of stuff, you’re in the wrong place.

Unquantifiable or Unpredictable Methods

One of the core strengths of the Dynamic Moneymaking Guide is that it gives you real estimates of how much money you can make with various methods, and allows you to compare them. Some methods, though, cannot be easily quantifed—you can certainly make money with them if you know what you’re doing, but it’s hard to say how much or how long it will take. Also in this category are techniques that rely excessively on luck to make money, or involve percentage chances so small that I cannot readily test them.

Examples of methods excluded for these reasons include:

  • Treasure trails.

  • Monsters with extremely low drop rates of very valuable items (unless they also have other valuable drops).

  • PKing.

  • “Merchanting” (buying and reselling items).
Methods Requiring Constant World-Hopping

I know that some people have no problem doing this, but I don’t care for it. In addition to being tedious, I think it is of dubious gameplay validity, and also makes methods very hard to test, and very much dependent on when you do them.

Team Activities

While you can certainly make money working with a team on activities like fighting God Wars bosses, the need to assemble a team makes proper testing impossible. These methods also usually also involve the same random chance issues described above.

Unscalable Methods

There are some methods of making money that work only because very few people do them. If I were to publicize these methods in a guide like this one, as soon as more players tried them, they’d immediately become pointless. I don’t know of many of these, but I do know a few, and I have omitted them.
