I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

Sequential Ghosts

This challenge is kinda like a spectral combat game of “monkey in the middle”. :) Several identical ghosts wander the room, and you can occasionally see a whitish spirit or vapor move from one to another. The goal is to kill all of the ghosts, but only the one currently possessing the spirit can be attacked.

General Description

This room can usually be immediately identified when playing solo, because it is a large empty square with five monsters in it—normally three monsters are the limit. In larger groups, the number of ghosts increases. They are all the same level, and they wander around aimlessly. The room is otherwise mostly empty, though it can contain fishing spots and trees. The level of the ghosts varies, but is tied at least loosely to the levels of players and the floor’s difficulty setting.

The idea here is to kill the ghosts, but there’s a catch: only one is vulnerable to attack at any given time. If you watch carefully, every few seconds you’ll see what looks like a white wisp of vapor—a spirit of some sort—jump from one ghost to another. The one that currently “holds” this spirit is the only one that can be attacked.

The ghosts begin as unaggressive monsters, but will retaliate if attacked. This means that if you attack a ghost not holding the spirit, it will take a lot of free shots at you without you being able to respond.

Recommended Strategies for Solo Players

First, for general advice on fighting the ghosts, see their monster page.

This is a pretty simple challenge. When you enter the room, watch carefully for a “spirit jump” to occur. When you see one, attack the ghost it jumps to. Once the ghost you are attacking is dead, the spirit or vapor will move to a different ghost; watch for this, and then attack that one. Repeat until all the ghosts are gone.

If you accidentally attack a ghost without the spirit, it will follow you around taking pot shots at you. If the ghosts are low level, just ignore this and wait until the spirit jumps into it to finish it off. If the ghosts are high level, it may be worth waiting after you kill the ghost you are on until the spirit jumps into the one attacking you.

Recommended Strategies for Teams

This puzzle appears to be the same for teams. Not all players are needed, but the more there are, the faster it goes.
