Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Iron Dragon

Iron dragons are transplants into Daemonheim from other dungeon areas. They are found in the Furnished theme floors much the way green dragons are found in the Abandoned floor dungeons: rarely. They also differ from normal iron dragons in the same ways as the green dragons do: they use a newer graphical model, and appear to have also had magic spells added to their arsenals. They will also melee when players are in melee range.

Like other dragons, these require special handling because of their firebreath attack. While anti-dragon shields do exist in Daemonheim, these cannot be made like most equipment; they must be either picked up off tables in the starting room, or obtained as drops from other monsters. They are rarely used, not just because most players don’t want to carry them around on the off chance of encountering a dragon, but because most players bind and rely upon two-handed weapons such as spears and mauls.

One way to provide protection against dragonbreath while using a two-handed weapon is to make weak, regular or strong cure potions, using aloe, featherfoil or buckthorn respectively, combined with firebreath whiskey. This will grant immunity for 5, 10 or 20 minutes from dragon breath weapons. However, because of the time involved in doing this, and the relative scarcity of dragons in Daemonheim—I’ve only seen three green dragons total as of level 73 in the skill—most players don’t bother.

The usual option of choice is to put on Protection from Magic or Deflect Magic. This reduces the damage from firebreath attacks (in addition to blocking magic attacks), making it quite feasible to just “tank” any damage received. Most players add to this Piety or Turmoil to kill the dragon as quickly as possible.

I have only encountered these dragons three or four times in many dozens of floors, and usually the more powerful ones are only seen in team environments. I have not had much opportunity yet to scientifically test their defences against specific attack forms. There is reason to believe that they are like iron dragons outside Dungeoneering, which would make them weak to magic and stab attacks, moderately strong against other attack forms. The lower-level versions typically found in solo dungeons are pretty easy to kill quickly, but level 200+ variants can be found on team floors, which have a lot of life points, and end up almost being like “mini-bosses”.

Iron dragons in Daemonheim drop dragon bones, but not iron bars. (In fact, it’s odd that iron dragons are in here at all—shouldn’t they be made of marmaros or something? :) ) The bones can be buried for the standard 72 Prayer XP, but cannot be offered for additional XP on Daemonheim altars.
