Forgotten Mage Forgotten mages are human magic-users found in the dungeons of Daemonheim; they are the magic counterparts of forgotten rangers and forgotten warriors. They are very common opponents in the dungeons, appearing on all floors and in over two dozen documented variations and counting. These monsters represent a step up in realism from the foes encountered in traditional dungeons. They wear level-appropriate robes and also use level-appropriate combat spells. They appear to be organized into tiers from 1 to 11, just like most equipment and materials are in Dungeoneering. The higher the combat level of the mage, the higher the tier of the robes it uses, the stronger the spell, and the more potent the opponent is. Forgotten mages use spells ranging from Wind Strike at the lowest levels, up to Fire Wave for the toughest versions. They also use standard mage tricks, including the use of debuff (weakening) spells and snaring. They are more intelligent than most monsters, and will actively try to snare you to keep out of melee range while they toss spells at you. Defensively, they are weakest to ranged attacks, and have moderate to surprisingly high resistance to melee at the higher levels. These mages wear full robe sets and will frequently drop robe pieces corresponding to the tier of the items they themselves are wearing. So, for example, the level 113+ mages frequently leave behind spiritbloom equipment. They also often drop combat runes, oriented towards the runes used by the spells they cast. These mages neither use nor drop staves of any kind, which is strange given the solid emphasis provided to staves in Dungeoneering, and the use of full equipment sets for the rangers and warriors.
Forgotten mages exist in various tiers, as mentioned above, each corresponding to a type of magic robe. There are also variations within each tier, though the reason for this is not as clear as it is with forgotten warriors. Some of the mages differ in the type of spell used; for example, one might use earth bolt while another uses fire bolt. However, the exact relationship between intra-tier variants isnt clear yetIve found four different tier 10 mages all using the same robes and spell, so Im not sure whats going on there. In Table 60 I have listed all of the forgotten mage types I have managed to document so far, including robe tiers and elemental spell types. This table is much less complete than the ones for forgotten rangers and warriors, because I have been having trouble finding the mages that I know must exist between tier 6 and tier 10. Maging robes are hard to identify by looks, and so I must wait for actual item drops to verify the tier of mage.
