Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Follow the Leader (Mime Statues)

This challenge is pretty much the same as the mime random event: you must watch the actions of an NPC and duplicate them. Do so successfully three times and the doors open; make a mistake or take too long to respond, and get hit by magic for considerable damage. This puzzle requires participation by multiple players when encountered in a team setting, depending on difficulty level.

General Description

This challenge room features five pressure pads in a “U”-shaped configuration. Around the perimeter of these pads are five statues or broken statues. The number of statues is equal to the difficulty setting of the floor; the remainder are broken statues put there as placeholders. The room itself can contain monsters and skill resources; fishing spots seem to be particularly common.

To activate the puzzle, one player must stand on the pressure pad opposite each of the statues. As soon as you stand on the pad, a bar labeled “Follow The Leader Progress”. Once all the pads opposite statues have players on them, the statues spring to life and do an emote. The player then has about five seconds to choose the right emote from a list; if this is done, the statue says “Correct!” and the progress bar increases by a third. Three correct answers and the statue bows and says “You may pass.” Guessing incorrectly or taking too long to make a selection results in the statue throwing a ball of energy at the player, hitting for as much as 400 LP of damage.

There are five possible emotes here: Wave, Nod head, Shake head, Laugh and Cry. Most of these are pretty obvious, though I find the “Shake head” one kinda strange and messed that one up a couple of times my first time on this puzzle.

Recommended Strategies for Solo Players

This is just like the mime random event, and should not pose much of a challenge for anyone who has completed that event. I recommend lowering your viewing angle, if relevant, as that makes it easier to see what the statue is doing.

If you do get hit, be sure to heal up before continuing.

Recommended Strategies for Teams

The puzzle is the same for teams as for individuals; each player does the same thing, just all at once. Also, a form of “group punishment” is imposed: if anyone on the team messes up his or her emote, the whole team gets zapped. As usual, ensuring that you play with clued-in people is very helpful. :) Note that the emote done by each statue can differ, so be sure you are looking at the right one.

Perhaps the biggest obstacle this challenge represents with teams is simply the fact that to do it, you need as many players as the difficulty setting. If you are playing a 5:5 room, then when this room is found, all players must stop what they are doing and converge on the room to complete the challenge. And if one player has left the group, guess what? You’re stuck. (This is one reason why large groups sometimes prefer to play on 5:4 difficulty, so you only need four players for a puzzle like this.)
