Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Five Pairs of Combat Triangle Opponents

If the experience in fighting monsters was too subtle in showing you how important Jagex made the combat triangle in Dungeoneering, consider this puzzle room a 2x4 to the face. :) The room contains five pairs of statues facing each other, with one of each pair holding a sword, bow or staff. You have to equip each opponent with the weapon of the superior class according to the triangle in order to proceed.

(This room should not be confused with the similar, but simpler, statue triangle puzzle.)

General Description

In this room you’ll see five pairs of opponents facing off against each other. One row of statues will have random weapons: swords, bows and staves, representing warriors, rangers and mages respectively. The other row features statues wielding no weapons.

Somewhere in the room, along a wall, will be a spot called a “crumbling wall”. You must mine rocks from this wall and fashion them into the appropriate weapons representing the class that defeats the classes used by each of the five armed statues. So if a statue is holding a sword, you’d make a staff and use that to arm its opponent; for a bow, you’d make a sword; and for a staff, a bow.

This puzzle has a Mining skill requirement (to mine the crumbling wall) and Crafting (to make the weapons). If you don’t meet the requirements, you may be able boost your Mining high enough to do the puzzle. To try this, make a weak, regular or strong gatherer’s potion (using sagewort, wormwood leaf or winter’s grip respectively, mixed with red moss). Crafting can be boosted via artisan’s potions (valerian, magebane or lycopus plus red moss).

It is possible to fail when mining rocks or making weapons. And since you have to make five weapons, the potential exists to take a lot of damage, so be careful.

Recommended Strategies for Solo Players

Make sure you have a pickaxe, a hammer, and at least two empty inventory spaces. More inventory spaces will save you time running around, so you may wish to drop a few items temporarily. Remember to grab the chisel from the center of the room.

Locate the crumbling wall by looking on your minimap for a red spot on the edge of the room about half the size of a door indicator. It will be either in the middle of a wall or in the corner of a wall that has a door.

Go over to the wall and click it to mine a stone block; repeat up to five times if you have the inventory space. It is possible to fail and get hit for considerable damage, so top up health before you begin, and again each time you get hit.

Once you have the stone blocks, figure out which weapons you need by looking at the statues. If you aren’t sure of what you’re seeing, you should be able to right-click examine them to see what they are holding.

Click a block (no need to “use” the chisel on them) and make the appropriate weapon. Again here, you can (somehow) greatly damage yourself, which also destroys the block in the process; you’ll then need to mine another, which can also hurt you (isn’t this fun?). Then click the appropriate statue to arm it. Repeat for all five statues.

Assuming you do this correctly, the statues will come to life, and then all simultaneously announce “You may pass.” If you get any of the weapons wrong, those weapons will disappear and you’ll need to do them again, but any weapons you did correctly will remain.

Recommended Strategies for Teams

The puzzle is the same for teams. Usually it will have a Mining requirement based on the player with the highest level in that skill, so have someone who is able to do the puzzle complete it, while other team members make productive use of their time.
