Ferret, Fish and Pressure Pad One of two ferret-related challenge rooms, in this puzzle you need to entice a ferret to move onto a pressure pad to unlock the doors in the room. You do this by catching special fish and cooking them, then throwing them onto the tile floor in the right places so the ferret moves where you want it to. You must avoid the holes in the floor that would drop the ferret into the water. This is a large puzzle that takes up nearly all of the room its in. There is a perimeter walkway, a moat of water and an island where the ferret and tiles are. On one side of the room is a special fishing spot, and on the other a special permanent fire. The ferret begins in one corner of the 7x7 tile floor, and you need to get it to move onto the pressure pad thats placed on a different corner. You need a fishing rod and feathers for this puzzle, and they are not supplied. When you catch and cook fish, you can throw them onto various tiles in the island, and the ferret will move to take the fish. You must navigate the ferret towards the pressure plate without letting it cross one of the holes (blue circles) that are present in certain tiles. If you do, the ferret drops into the water and resurfaces back at a random corner of the puzzle (other than the pressure plate corner!) Once the ferret hits the plate, it will unlock the doors. Note that while the challenge is generally safe, it is possible to take damage while catching the fish; the game will say You have a hilarious fishing accident that one day youll tell your grandchildren about. This puzzle definitely has a Fishing skill requirement, and may also have a Cooking requirement; not sure about the latter. You may be able to boost your Fishing high enough to do the puzzle using a weak, regular or strong gatherers potion (using sagewort, wormwood leaf and winters grip, respectively, with red moss as a secondary). There is also a Ranged requirement to throw the fish, but this rarely seems to be a practical issue for most parties.
One key to making this puzzle less painful is to know that you do not have to always throw the fish next to the ferret; you can toss the fish anywhere, and the ferret will move to it. This means you usually only need three or four fish, not six or more. First, get a fishing rod and feathers if necessary. If you have gatestone runes, make a gatestone so you can get back quickly. Go to the special fishing spot and catch a few of the smelly fish; note that you have to catch these one at a time. Next, go over to the fire and cook them; I dont think it is possible to burn these fish, and again, you cook them one at a time. Now, look at the tiles and mentally plot a path from the ferrets location to the pressure plate. Remember that you can make the ferret move in any direction, including diagonally and even in vectors other than the standard eight movement directions. Just make sure it wont cross any tiles with holes in them. It seems complicated but really isnt. Just give it a try, youll see what I mean. :) The puzzle apppears to be the same for teams. Usually it will have a Fishing requirement based on the player with the highest level in that skill, so have that person do it.
