I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

With this monster, what you see is
what you get: its a pickaxe, come to life, looking to end yours.
These are similar to the animated pickaxes found in Tarns Lair
and the Chaos Tunnels, but they can hit quite high at the higher levels.
Animated pickaxes appear to be strong
against stab attacks, weak to slash and crush, and Im not sure
about magic or ranging. Very oddly, they can be poisoned.
When killed, animated pickaxes may
drop metal pickaxes, with the metal type corresponding to the level
of monster killed. Thus, level 7 ones drop novite pickaxes, and level
116 ones drop promethium pickaxes. This is not a 100% drop.
Note that even though the existence
of different levels and the dropping of different tiers of pickaxes
implies that the metal used is different for each animated pickaxe,
they all look the same within the game itself.

Versions and Combat Statistics
Table 75
lists all of the animated pickaxes Ive found so far, along with
the type of pickaxe they occasionally drop when killed. In some cases
I have not confirmed the pickaxe type; these are represented by a question
mark. Id also expect a bathus pickaxe to fit in somewhere in the
level 15 area, but havent encountered one yet.
