Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

The Beastopedia Herbs Resource Table

Herbs are one of the very most important combat-obtained resources in RuneScape. Even though you can obtain them by growing them with the Farming skill, many players actually find it faster and easier to get them via combat. There are dozens of monsters that drop herbs, but some provide them in far larger quantities than others. To make it easier for players to see at a glance the best monsters (and methods) for getting herbs, I have summarized approximate herb drop totals in the Herbs Resource Table.

The table contains three columns: monster level, monster name (and method), and an approximate hourly quantity of herbs you can get from that monster and combat method. The table is sorted in descending quantity order (assuming you have Javascript enabled) so the best herb droppers appear at the top of the list. You can change the sort order by clicking on the column headers, as is the case with the other resource tables.

Upon looking at the table, you’ll likely notice that most of the best herb droppers are actually low level monsters. This is the case because you can kill them more quickly, giving you more drops per hour. The main exception is the aberrant spectre, a high level monster that makes up for its higher life point total by often dropping two or even three herbs at a time.

The quantities shown are estimates of the number of herbs you can get per hour via high level combat, but assume only occasional banking time. With the better herb droppers, you will end up leaving behind the less valuable herbs to maximize the time you spend gathering the good ones. If you actually do want to collect and save every herb you get from monsters like chaos druids, you’ll end up with fewer total herbs per hour because of the time spent traveling and banking.

Note that nearly all monsters drop the “standard” set of 11 grimy herbs: guam, marrentill, tarromin, harralander, ranarr, irit, avantoe, kwuarm, cadantine, lantadyme and dwarf weed. As near as I can tell, the relative proportions of each herb type are about the same for each monster; the percentages break down roughly as shown in Table 170.

Table 170: Approximate Distribution of Grimy Herb Drops

Grimy Herb

Approximate Percentage of Standard Herb Drops

Guam

25%

Marrentill

19%

Tarromin

15%

Harralander

11%

Ranarr

7.6%

Irit

6.6%

Avantoe

4.7%

Kwuarm

3.7%

Cadantine

3.3%

Lantadyme

2.4%

Dwarf weed

2.3%

Using a macaw Summoning familiar changes these percentages by increasing the number of higher level herbs; I did not use one in my tests, however.
