The Beastopedia Good Sources List Drop lists tell you all the items you can get from a monster, but they dont give you a good idea of how many items you will get during typical combatthats why I created drop logs that show the results of actual combat. Similarly, while the Comprehensive Source List is a handy cross-reference of monsters and the items they can provide, it doesnt say anything about quantities and drop percentages. Since players want to know which monsters are the most reliable sources for key items, I include an entry in each monster page that lists off the more valuable items that each monster can be considered a reasonably reliable source for. This information is summarized in the Good Sources List, and can be used to find the best monsters for various key materials. For example, I mentioned that the Comprehensive Source List shows that abyssal demons and skeletal wyverns give the most pure essence in a single drop. But the Good Sources List illustrates that despite this, banshees and mighty banshees are actually the best sources of this critical item, providing about 800 per hour. The higher level monsters provide 60 at a time, but drop it less frequently, making them a poorer source overall. The Good Sources table has three columns. The first names the item in question, and as always includes a link to the Grand Exchange for your convenience. The second and third specify the monster that is a good source of the item, and tells you approximately how many per hour you can get from it. In some cases there are multiple monsters fought at once, and in this case all of them are shown. You can click any monsters name to go to its monster page. Each row in the table contains one item and monster combination, so if there are five monsters that are all good sources for a specific item, the item will appear five times. By doing this, I was able to use a default order for the table that shows all good source items alphabetically, and then for each item, all the good sources sorted so the best ones come first. In order to keep the tables length manageable, I only keep track of the good sources of items that are important for various skills, or that are valuable in their own right. Even so, its pretty long. J The table is sortable, but the default sort order is the one that makes the most sense. You can also click on the monster column header to sort by monster name. Determining quantities for the Good Sources List was not a simple matter, because of two main factors. First, as you know, drops are random and can be highly variable, especially with some monsters. And second, there are many different possible strategies in terms of what drops to take, how often to bank and so forth. So what did I do? Simply put, I guesstimated on the quantities of items I could reliably obtain, based on the results of my combat tests and my own personal experience. Its worth noting that while the combat drop logs in the Beastopedia do not consider travel or banking time in most cases, this is taken into account when assessing good source lists. For example, I can kill over 250 level 61 vampires per hour, but I can only bank maybe about 230 vampire dust per hour (along with other drops). I do make exceptions to this rule in certain cases where the drops are usually the entire point of fighting the monster in the first place, though. For example, in the case of killing dragons for hides and bones, I take into account banking time both in the case where you bank the bones or where you bury them. (Burying on the spot lets you get more kills and more hides per hour, but means you cant make as much money, since you cant sell the bones.)
