Analysis, Discussion and Tips for Success

General Discussion

Relicym's balm is an anti-disease potion, most often used when thieving or fighting zogres and skogres. It is made by putting two special jungle herbs into a vial of water: rogue's purse and snake weed. These are quest items, and thus untradeable, which means that to make these you must gather and clean the herbs yourself, a very slow and boring process. The end result is that you can only make a tiny fraction of the XP per hour by doing these potions, as compared to other options. They are also not very valuable, because they aren't used often, and you can buy them from Uglug Nar in Jiggig for 200 gp.

(Special Note: Since I don't expect many people to bother making these potions, I have not been completely thorough in testing how fast this can be done at all levels, nor exactly what requirements are needed in a practical sense, especially at lower levels.)

Location and Access

To make these potions you must collect the herbs from two spots on Karamja, bank them, then make the potions at any bank. I usually use Castle Wars. See the technique section below for details.

Required and Recommended Equipment

For fastest gathering you need a lunar or dramen staff, and possibly mith grapple and crossbow. Lower-level players also need armor to protect themselves from attack.

Required and Recommended Supplies

You may need food and/or an antipoison potion, especially at lower levels.

Familiar Suggestions

Since the herbs are untradeable, you can't store them in a beast of burden.

Summon a foraging familiar to earn extra money for you while you work -- I prefer the magpie, given the high value of rings and gems today. There isn't a really worthwhile forager below Summoning level 47, so I wouldn't bother with a familiar at lower levels.

Technique and Tips

This is a multiple step process: gather one herb, then another, then make the potions.

First get an inventory of rogue's purse. Go to the Jogre cave quickly by teleporting to Karamja with an amulet of glory and then using a crossbow and mith grapple at Musa Point, followed by a short run west to the cave entrance. Alternatives include fairy rings or just running from Brimhaven. Move around the cave looking for "fungus covered cavern walls", then search them to find the herbs. Continue until you have a full load, clean them and bank.

Next, snake weed. Use the fairy rings to code "CKR" and run west until you find the marshy jungle vines, search them for snake weed and clean it. Continue until you have 28 and then bank.

Take out 14 water-filled vials and 14 rogue's purse. Click one vial and then one herb (or vice-versa) and when prompted, right-click the main message area and choose "Make All". Wait for the herbs to be added to the water. Next, open the bank, take out 14 snake weed, click one and then click one of your unfinished potions. Again choose "Make All" and wait. Bank the finished potions and repeat.

This process takes a whopping 18 minutes, so you make less than 100 an hour!
