General Discussion

You may remember blamish oil; it is the specialty "potion" used to make an oily fishing rod, needed to catch lava eels as part of the Heroes Quest. Most players never make it again after the quest is complete, but you can make more of it for the Herblore XP if you want to. Making it requires you to grind up raw snail with a mortar and pestle to make blamish snail slime in a sample bottle, then use that as a secondary ingredient with harralander in a vial of water.

The snail slime and the finished oil are both untradeable and basically useless, so you must do the procedure entirely yourself and then drop the oil when done.

Location and Access

You can make potions at any bank, but a one-click bank like Castle Wars is preferred.

Required and Recommended Equipment

Mortar and pestle and 13 or more sample bottles. Both items can be obtained on the GE quite easily.

Familiar Suggestions

Summon a foraging familiar to earn extra money for you while you work -- I prefer the magpie, given the high value of rings and gems today. There isn't a really worthwhile forager below Summoning level 47, so I wouldn't bother with a familiar at lower levels.

Technique and Tips

First, make the blamish oil. Put into your inventory a mortar and pestle and 13 sample bottles. Take out 13 thin snails (or other raw snail meat) and use each one, one at a time, on the mortar and pestle. It will be ground into a white pulp and automatically put into the sample bottles. Repeat as often as desired until you have a good amount of the slime. It is more efficient to make lots of slime first, but if you have few sample bottles you may have to stop and make potions, then reuse the bottles (you get them back when the potions are done.)

Now, to make the actual potions. As always, it is fastest if you have your stacks of water vials, herbs and seconds near each other in your bank.

Take out 14 water-filled vials and 14 harralanders. Click one vial and then one herb (or vice-versa) and when prompted, right-click the main message area and choose "Make All". Wait for the herbs to be added to the water. Next, open the bank, take out 14 sample bottles of snail slime, click one and then click one of your unfinished potions. Again choose "Make All" and wait. When done, you'll have 14 blamish oil and 14 empty sample bottles. Drop each oil and put the sample bottles back in the bank.
