General Discussion
Defence potions are the complement of regular attack and strength potions -- they boost Defence by 10% of your level, rounded down, plus 3 (so 3 to 12 points). Unlike attack and strength pots, though, defence potions are almost never actually made. The reason is that they use ranarr, which is one of the most expensive herbs more commonly used for prayer potions. Even the white berries are pretty expensive...

You can make potions at any bank, but a one-click bank like Castle Wars is preferred.

No supplies are required, aside from vials of water, herbs and secondary ingredients.
Familiar Suggestions
Summon a foraging familiar to earn extra money for you while you work -- I prefer the magpie, given the high value of rings and gems today. There isn't a really worthwhile forager below Summoning level 47, so I wouldn't bother with a familiar at lower levels.
Technique and Tips
Take out 14 water-filled vials and 14 ranarr herbs. Click one vial and then one herb (or vice-versa) and when prompted, right-click the main message area and choose "Make All". Wait for the herbs to be added to the water. Next, open the bank, take out 14 white berries, click one and then click one of your unfinished potions. Again choose "Make All" and wait. Bank the finished potions and repeat.
