Analysis, Discussion and Tips for Success
General Discussion
Shark is the "classic" high-level fish, and for many years getting to level 76 Fishing was a primary goal of thousands of RuneScape players. Lately, sharks have lost some of their luster, due to far better training with monkfish, and higher-level fish such as cavefish and rocktail. That said, sharks remain popular among a core of devoted fishermen and fisherwomen, who prefer them to those other options because of their high value and how simple they are to catch.
Location and Access
The Fishing Guild is the best place for sharks. Alternatives include the Fremennik Isles and Burgh de Rott, if you want quieter spots with fewer people. Don't fish sharks at Catherby, it is quite annoying.
Required and Recommended Equipment
You need a harpoon to catch shark, but should use a barb-tailed harpoon, since it can be equipped, saving an inventory slot. At level 96 Fishing you can catch shark "barehand" using Barbarian fishing techniques, and so don't need a harpoon at all.

No supplies are needed.
Familiar Suggestions
Use the granite lobster to increase your effective Fishing level and forage some nice extra sharks and some swordfish, also getting you a little bonus XP.
Technique and Tips
There's not much to say here, just find a Net/Harpoon spot and fish away.
Note that it is possible to start fishing sharks at level 71 using admiral pies, or level 73 using fish pies or fishing potions. I recommend at least level 73 with admiral pies or level 75 with fish pies / potions, because
..if you just barely boost up to 76, you'll spend most of your time eating or drinking and will waste a lot of money.
