Analysis, Discussion and Tips for Success
General Discussion
Big net fishing lets you catch the greatest variety of fish and other items in the game. You can start as early as level 16, getting raw mackerel, some seaweed and oysters -- as well as lots of junk (leather boots and gloves). As your level increases, the percentage of fish improves, and you also add the ability to catch raw cod (level 23) and raw bass (level 46). Bass is actually a valuable fish, given that it heals 13, putting it between lobster and swordfish. As you cast out your net you will also occasionally get caskets, which can contain coins, gems, even half keys and cosmic talismans.
Big net fishing isn't the most popular option, in part because of the large number of relatively low-valued items you get, but some people enjoy it, if as a change of pace, if nothing else.
Location and Access
Start in Catherby, and move to the Fishing Guild at level 63 Fishing; there are many more spots there, and they are closer to the bank. (The nominal level for the guild is 68, but you can use an admiral pie at 63.)
Required and Recommended Equipment
You need a big fishing net, obviously. I also recommend wearing a charged necklace of skills -- this increases the number of caskets you get while fishing.

No supplies are needed.
Familiar Suggestions
At very low levels, start out with a granite crab. It doesn't do much, but will get you a few extra fish. At level 40 Summoning, switch to a bull ant, and at level 52, a spirit terrorbird. If you want to make more money (at the cost of a little XP), use a magpie at level 47 instead of a beast of burden.
At higher levels, I recommend going back to fishing-related familiars; the ibis and granite lobster increase your effective Fishing level and forage fish themselves (worth good money and a little bit of XP).
Technique and Tips
There's not much to describe here -- just go to Catherby or the Fishing Guild, summon your familiar, fish and bank. Note that it is possible to catch more than one item at a time, especially at higher levels, in which case the extra item falls to the ground. So keep an eye out for that when you return from banking.
Note that it is possible to start catching fish at either 5 or 3 levels below the nominal fishing requirement, by using admiral pies (+5) or fish pies or fishing potions (+3).
I recommend using admiral pies within 3 levels of the requirement, or fish pies / potions within 1 level. If you just barely boost up to the minimum, you'll spend most of your time eating or drinking and will waste a lot of money.
