Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Analysis, Discussion and Tips for Success

General Discussion

Regular rope is used for a large variety of purposes in RuneScape, but for many years, there was no way for players to make it. During the quest Fremennik Isles, we learn that rope is in fact spun from yak hair, a drop from yaks that live on the island of Jatizso. Players can now use yak hair (called just "Hair" in the game) to make their own rope, in the same way as other items are spun.

Making rope involves a trade-off when compared to bow strings -- rope gives 67% more XP, but you don't make money making it as you do with bow strings.

To the best of my knowledge, you do not need to complete the relevant quest to make this item.

Location and Access

The closest spinning wheel to a bank for lower level players is the one on the middle floor of Lumbridge Castle. Players who have completed at least the medium tasks of the Seers' Village Achievement Diary earn the Seers Headband 2, which reduces spinning time by a full third; this tips the balance in favor of spinning in Seers' Village (though not by a great deal).

Since the medium tasks of the diary require skills in the mid to upper 40s, I assume an average skill level of 47 (the same as that used by the magpie familiar, for simplicity).

Required and Recommended Equipment

Seer's headband 2 or 3 if spinning at Seers' Village; otherwise, none.

Required and Recommended Supplies

One set of yak hair per rope. This can be purchased on the GE, or picked up as a drop from killing yaks on Jatizso. Vanligga Gastfrihet also sells it in her shop on Jatizso, but only keeps a stock of 10.

Familiar Suggestions

Summon a foraging familiar to earn extra money for you while you work -- I prefer the magpie, given the high value of rings and gems today. There isn't a really worthwhile forager below Summoning level 47, so I wouldn't bother with a familiar at lower levels.

Technique and Tips

As with other spinning methods, there's not much to do here: just take a load of hair, run to the spinning wheel and click it. Right-click the rope, choose "Make All" and wait. Return to the bank and repeat.
