Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Analysis, Discussion and Tips for Success

General Discussion

Silver is primarily a power-training material in the Crafting skill. It can be used to get a good amount of experience fairly quickly, even at low levels; however, there are no items you make from it that are in high demand in large quantities, so the market is flooded with end products, the value of nearly all of which is very low. This means you usually take a fairly big monetary loss when making silver items.

Silver bolts are the only combat-related items you can make from silver, and are also the only stackable item. They are a relatively low-level crossbow bolt, but are also extremely inexpensive (and thus a good value for training). This is in large part du quantities when training the Crafting skill. They must be finished with feathers before they can be used as ammunition.

Silver bolts are members only items.

Location and Access

Members should complete at least the easy portion of the Varrock Achievement Diary, then use the furnace right next to the bank in Edgeville. Another option is to use the clay forge in Neitiznot. In my tests, the two are very close, but Edgeville is slightly faster, and certainly more convenient; Neitiznot is a better choice for those who value peace and quiet since it is usually nearly deserted.

Required and Recommended Equipment

A bolt mould is required, which you can get at a crafting shop, like the one in Al-Kharid.

Required and Recommended Supplies

One silver bar per set of 10 bolts.

Familiar Suggestions

Silver bolts stack, so in theory you can save banking time by filling a beast of burden with bars that you can take from the familiar once you use up bars in your inventory. However, the furnace is so close to the bank that the time to load and unload the familiar negates any savings here.

So, as usual, summon a foraging familiar to earn extra money for you while you work -- I prefer the magpie.

Technique and Tips

With a bolt mould in your inventory, withdraw a full load of silver bars, then click in the furnace room on your minimap. While running, click a silver bar in your inventory, then click the furnace. When the Crafting interface appears, right-click the silver bolts and choose "Make All". Then return to the bank, store the bolts, and repeat.

For the greatest efficiency, if you are crafting in Edgeville, right-click the bank and hover over the "Use-quickly" menu item, clicking it when all of your bars are consumed; widening the RuneScape window may make this easier.
