Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Analysis, Discussion and Tips for Success

General Discussion

Feather headdresses are Summoning-related items. You can "charge" them by using Summoning combat scrolls on them; if you then wear the headdress and summon a familiar corresponding to the scrolls it contains, the scrolls will automatically be cast at random intervals while you fight.

There are five types of headdress, each made from a leather coif and 20 colored feathers: blue, orange, red, stripy or yellow; each gives 50 Crafting XP. Like many outputs from the Crafting skill, most players only need one of these at a time, and players making them for XP glut the market with them. However, they are still a practical training option in some cases, because the items they start with are cheap (and in fact, coifs themselves are "waste products" of the Crafting skill.

One drawback of making these items is that there is no "Make X" for them, so you have to click twice for every one you make. This makes the process rather tedious.

Finally, an important note: If you aren't able to sell these on the Grand Exchange, you can sell them to Summoning shops for 120 gp each.

Location and Access

You can make these at any bank, but a one-click bank is preferred. Castle Wars is my favorite.

Required and Recommended Equipment

None needed.

Required and Recommended Supplies

One leather coif and 20 yellow feathers per headdress.

Familiar Suggestions

Summon a foraging familiar to earn extra money for you while you work -- I prefer the magpie, given the high value of rings and gems today.

Technique and Tips

First, equip a coif. This way, if you accidentally click a coif first in your inventory, it "swaps" with the one you are wearing, saving you from having to unequip it.

Take out a stack of feathers and 27 leather coifs. Move the feathers to a central position in your inventory; I usually use the second column, fourth row. This reduces your mouse movements. Now click on the feathers and one of the coifs to make a headdress, and repeat the process 26 times. I usually start with the coif just to the left of the feathers and then make clockwise "loops" until they are all done, but the order you do them in is really up to you.

When done, bank the headdresses and repeat the process.
