Overview and Goals of the Skill Optimization Guide Sponsored links help make RuneScoop possible; RuneScoop members don't see them. See here for more information about ads. As an experienced RuneScape player, I know what my options are for training various skills. I know what the important levels are for these skills, where new activities and leveling options become available to me. I understand what activities let me get XP quickly, and which ones are costly or more miserly with my funds. And I have some idea, based on my own tests and the experiences of others, of what methods are better than others. But many players do not. And even those who do have a good understanding of skills are relying on subjective impressions that are often incorrect, or at least havent been properly tested. Like most players, Ive been influenced by conventional wisdom thats often of dubious validity, Ive been discouraged from trying new ideas, and Ive often wasted time that could have been better spent if I knew better. Ive known for years what was really needed: a set of skill guides that say not just what you can do, but what you should do. Experienced players want concrete data about how fast various options are in terms of getting experience, how much they cost, and what the best ways are to save time and money. And thats what the goal is of the RuneScoop Skill Optimization Guide. The idea behind the guide was simple enough: start with one skill, and figure out various ways of training it to see which ones were the best. But when I sat down to actually start my testing, I quickly learned that in many cases this is easier said than done. I had to contend with a variety of issues that I hadnt anticipated when I started out. For example, one big issue was dealing with skill levels. Many skills are designed so that your speed is a function of your level, so whats best at one level isnt necessarily ideal at another. And there are 99 different levels for each skill! I didnt want to test every method 99 times to create 99 tables for each skill. How could I simplify this while still providing useful information? I dealt with this and other conundrums, and came up with what I think is a useful guide to optimizing skill training. It combines detailed testing, useful activity descriptions and level-specific indexes to let you find the methods that suit your needs. I hope you enjoy it!
