Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Overview and Goals of the Moneymaking Guide

As a RuneScape player, I naturally need to make money from time to time as well. And like most players do, I often found myself asking that all-too-common question: “What’s the best way to make money?” I wished that there was a comprehensive guide that would help me earn gold in a way that was quick, efficient, and fun. And I discovered that one simply didn’t exist.

If you look at various RuneScape-related forums, you’ll see basic moneymaking guides, but they are usually just laundry lists of the standard, well-known activities that earn a profit: picking flax, fishing lobsters, mining coal and so forth. While certainly helpful, these lists fall short of what I really wanted.

And so, in mid-2008, I set out to create the RuneScoop Dynamic Moneymaking Guide. My goals were for this guide to do the following:

  • Describe in detail a large number of methods for making money, including both the well-known favorites and also more exotic, interesting ideas.

  • Illustrate methods in a variety of gameplay categories, including skills, combat, gathering, minigames and more.

  • Include variations of the various methods, to allow players of all levels to find techniques that are well-suited to their style and interests.

  • Share some of the special moneymaking tricks of the trade I’ve discovered in my many years of gameplay.

  • Let readers see ranked lists of methods for earning gold, so they can see how they compare at any given time.

  • Provide up-to-date information about the best methods at any given time, since the profitability of an activity changes as prices change for inputs and outputs.

  • Show both continuous methods (which can be done for as much time as you want to put into them) and limited methods (which can be performed only a certain number of times per day), and how methods compare within each general category.

Accomplishing these objectives turned out to be a monumental undertaking—far larger, certainly, than I had anticipated when I started it! I spent weeks researching moneymaking methods, thinking up my own, and documenting them. Hundreds of hours were spent in gameplay testing to determine how quickly each task could be performed, including many tests done with decreased ability levels to simulate how lower-level players would perform.

I believe that I came pretty close to what I set out to create. I did have to make some compromises, and my own limitations made certain kinds of testing not really feasible, but overall, I think you’ll be pleased with the results.
