I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Method Description, Instructions and Tips for Success
General Description
Outside the main part of the Rogues' Den minigame in Burthorpe you will find four safes where you can train Thieving and get some nice rewards. Each time you successfully open one of the safes, you get 10, 20 or 40 gold coins, or an uncut sapphire, emerald, ruby or diamond. This is in fact one of the best ways to get uncut gems in the game, and a very easy and relaxed way of obtaining Thieving XP. It's a bit slow when you just barely meet the minimum requirement of 50 Thieving, but still worthwhile (though a lot better at higher levels).
Use a magpie familiar to add to your earnings with gems and rings.
At very high levels, the Ardougne Cloak 3 is supposed to improve your chances of success in Thieving. I haven't been able to verify this with my tests -- the random number generator seems to dwarf the effect -- but there's no harm in wearing it.
Specific Method Details
Use a games necklace to teleport to Burthorpe, exit the games room and then go into the pub and down the trapdoor behind the bar. Trade Martin Thwait and buy a stethoscope, then bank with Emerald Benedict, taking out a magpie pouch and some food -- jugs of wine are a great choice as they heal 11 HP and are very cheap, and the -2 they give to Attack doesn't matter here. Put on a regen bracelet and your Ardougne Cloak 3.
Now simply walk over to one of the safes and click it; after a short time you will either get some "loot" or trigger a trap and take some damage. Repeat until you are out of food or your inventory is full of gems, then bank and continue for as long as you wish. While you thieve, the magpie will gather even more gems and rings for you!
