I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Method Description, Instructions and Tips for Success
General Description
Nature runes are one of the most popular type to craft. While they have come down in value since the start of 2008, they are still a good way to make money and earn Runecrafting experience.
There are many different approaches for runecrafting nature runes, but the fastest method these days is to use a spirit graahk familiar, which provides unlimited teleports to a hunting area conveniently adjacent to the nature altar. This makes it both faster and safer than using the Abyss. However, some players may not have the necessary levels to use this familiar, and the Abyss is faster than using the fairy ring system. Just bear in mind that using the Abyss is dangerous. Any time you travel through the Wilderness there is the risk of revenant attack; the distance covered in getting to the Abyss is small, so it's rare to encounter a revenant of the right level to attack you, but it happens. If you do come under attack, try to run south back to "civilization" or teleport using your amulet. If you are about to die, immediately drop your pouches --
you can get them back if you return quickly after you respawn, but if you die with them they are lost. I formerly used a forinthry brace to provide some protection when using the Abyss. However, I have discontinued the practice, since the chances of actually needing it are small, and the cost of the braces cuts into your profits significantly.
Remember also that at mid levels, even the monsters in the Abyss itself can be dangerous, so move quickly to try to avoid damage in there.
Thanks to the November 2009 Runecrafting update, you start to get double natures above level 44, though not many until your level gets significantly higher. At level 91 Runecrafting you get two nature runes per essence. This is the "Holy Grail" of runecrafters and a very good moneymaker even with nature rune prices well off their historical high prices.
Specific Method Details
I assume the use of a magpie familiar here, just to earn some extra money while you craft runes. If you have at least level 54 Summoning, use an abyssal parasite instead, as it will let you make about 10% more runes per hour.
Start at Edgeville, equipping the items described above. These might seem a strange assortment, but they have been chosen to provide inexpensive defence against revenant or abyssal monster attacks while keeping weight down.
Take out your small, medium and large Runecrafting pouches and a magpie pouch. Summon the familiar. Fill the pouches, then take out more essence.
Run north out of Edgeville bank and cross the Wilderness ditch, then head north/northeast to the Zamorak mage; right-click him and choose "Teleport". You'll end up somewhere in the outer ring of the Abyss. Head in the general direction of the nature rift (found at about the "12 o'clock" position on the inner ring), looking for the "passage", "gap", "eyes" or "rocks" obstacles -- these you can get through using your pickaxe or without equipment. Once you get to the inner ring head to the nature rift and pass through. Craft your runes, then empty your pouches and craft again. Use your amulet of glory to bank at Edgeville.
You should not need to use energy potions, as it will restore rapidly at this level due to the June 2009 energy update. You will need to pause and eat periodically due to damage taken in the Abyss.
When your pouches degrade, they can be fixed very easily by right-clicking the dark mage in the center of the Abyss and choosing the appropriate option.
To use the Abyss effectively, you should have lots of amulets of glory. You'll need to take time to recharge them once in a while at the Heroes' Guild. At very high levels, the most efficient method is to own lots of amulets (100 or more) and when most are discharged, summon a geyser titan familiar and use it to recharge all of them in just a few seconds. Be sure to remember to swap out your amulet when it is out of charges; I sometimes wear a ring of duelling for when I forget to do so.
