Method Description, Instructions and Tips for Success
General Description
Law runes are used for teleports and are always in demand; they can be crafted effectively either by using the balloon network or the Abyss, each of which has pros and cons. The balloon method's advantages are that you avoid having to go into the Wilderness, so you don’t have to worry about revenant attack or getting skulled. You also don't have to recharge amulets of glory or deal with damage from abyssal monsters. The abyss method, however, lets you craft more runes per hour. It also makes it easy to repair your Runecrafting pouches.
Remember that you cannot bring armor or weapons to Entrana, which makes using the Abyss somewhat risky -- you cannot wear proper armor. You also can't bring a pickaxe, or use any Summoning familiars, so this rules out an abyssal familiar to carry extra essence. This restriction has a considerable impact on yield compared to making other runes via the Abyss.
Bear in mind that any time you travel through the Wilderness there is the risk of revenant attack, but the distance covered in getting to the Abyss is small, and you only have to go up to Wilderness level 5, so it's rare to encounter a revenant of the right level to attack you. If you do come under attack, try to run south back to "civilization" or teleport using your amulet. If you are about to die, immediately drop your pouches -- you can get them back if you return quickly after you respawn, but if you die with them they are lost. I do not use a forinthry brace when in the Abyss on this method, since I take nothing of value that it would protect (the pouches aren't covered anyway.)
Specific Method Details
Start at Edgeville, equipping boots of lightness, spottier cape, charged amulet of glory and ring of duelling. Remember that you can't wear armor, so you just have to absorb damage and heal yourself at the bank.
Take out your small, medium and large Runecrafting pouches. Fill them and then take out more essence.
Run north out of Edgeville bank and cross the Wilderness ditch, then head north/northeast to the Zamorak mage; right-click him and choose "Teleport". You'll end up somewhere in the outer ring of the Abyss. Head in the general direction of the law rift (found at about the "1 o'clock" position on the inner ring), looking for the "passage", "gap" or "eyes" obstacles -- these you can get through without equipment. Once you get to the inner ring head to the law rift and pass through. Craft your runes, then empty your pouches and craft again. Use your amulet of glory to bank at Edgeville.
You should not need to use energy potions, as it will restore rapidly at this level due to the June 2009 energy update. You will need to pause and eat periodically due to damage taken in the Abyss.
When your pouches degrade, they can be fixed very easily by right-clicking the dark mage in the center of the Abyss and choosing the appropriate option.
To use the Abyss effectively, you should have lots of amulets of glory. You'll need to take time to recharge them once in a while at the Heroes' Guild. At very high levels, the most efficient method is to own lots of amulets (100 or more) and when most are discharged, summon a geyser titan familiar and use it to recharge all of them in just a few seconds. Be sure to remember to swap out your amulet when it is out of charges; I sometimes wear a ring of duelling for when I forget to do so.
