I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Granite was traditionally used for powerleveling the Mining skill, as it provided good Mining XP, but granite itself was useless. When Summoning was introduced, Jagex made the very small (500g) granite blocks a secondary ingredient, so these were quite valuable, but the other pieces remained worthless. Jagex then added the ability to chisel the larger blocks into smaller ones, so now all granite pieces have value, with the larger ones worth more.
The two quickest ways of getting to the mine are using the Camulet from the quest Enakhra's Lament, or a Pharaoh's sceptre from the Pyramid Plunder minigame. Taking the latter to the Ancient Magicks pyramid is actually faster, but having to recharge it all the time is a nuisance and gets expensive, so I recommend using the Camulet. Just store a number of buckets of dung in your bank to recharge that as needed. I have not included the time needed to get the camel dung in the method calculations here.
Note that some people prefer to drop the smaller chunks of granite to concentrate on the more valuable ones, but banking is pretty quick so I keep them all.
Note that a dragon pickaxe will provide more yield than a rune pickaxe for those with Mining levels above 60. Due to its very high cost, however, I have decided not to include it in the Moneymaking Guide at this time.
