Method Description, Instructions and Tips for Success

General Description

Earth orbs are used to make earth battlestaves; this gives very fast Crafting XP, so the orbs are always in high demand. They are made by taking them to the earth obelisk located in low level Wilderness; it is accessed by running all the way through the Edgeville Dungeon. The spell requires level 60 Magic and uses 3 cosmic runes and 30 earth runes per orb (the earth staff negates the need for the earth runes, however.)

Earth orbs are the most annoying of the four types to charge, because of the location of the earth obelisk. It is in shallow Wilderness, like the air obelisk, but it is in a spot where it is difficult to avoid attacks by poison spiders and the quest monster Chronozon (a large demon). You can hide from these monsters but when you try to access your beast of burden they may be able to attack you, and you may waste some time avoiding them. This is why this method yields fewer orbs on average than doing water, fire or air orbs, which may be more profitable, depending on current GE prices.

Note that there is no advantage to level 90 skills over level 70 skills here, but at level 96 Summoning you can use a pack yak, which lets you make more orbs per hour.

Finally, remember that even though it takes a long time to do the charging, during which you could effectively multitask, you are in the Wilderness so it is wise to pay attention to what you're doing!

Specific Method Details

Equip an earth staff (or other staff that provides earth runes), charged amulet of glory, weight-reducing equipment and a forinthry brace -- the bracelet stops you from being teleblocked in the event of revenant attack. Also wear Varrock Armour 3 for a little lightweight defence against the monsters in the dungeon.

Starting at Edgeville, summon a pack yak. Take out a pile of cosmic runes and a super antipoison potion. Drink a dose of the potion, return it and take out an inventory of unpowered orbs. Put them all in the pack yak, then take another inventory out. Go south to the entrance to Edgeville Dungeon, enter and run north to the Wilderness gate. Go through and run northwest past the thugs, chaos druids and skeletons. When you get to the black demons, turn south and run past the poison spiders and Chronozon. If you are attacked by one of the spiders, try to trap it on one side of the obelisk.

Cast the Charge Earth Orb spell on the obelisk, then choose to make all the orbs. When done, open the pack yak and swap the charged orbs for the uncharged orbs, three at a time. As mentioned in the overview, you may need to move further into the room to access your familiar, and you'll need to avoid taking attack damage while doing so.

..When you are done swapping orbs, charge the unpowered ones. Teleport back to Edgeville and repeat. You'll need to recharge your amulets at some point, of course.

If you are attacked by a revenant, run back towards the non-Wilderness part of the dungeon, or use your amulet to teleport out.
