Method Description, Instructions and Tips for Success

General Description

Air orbs are used to make air battlestaves; this gives very fast Crafting XP, so the orbs are always in high demand. They are made by taking them to the air obelisk located in low level Wilderness; it is accessed by running all the way through the Edgeville Dungeon. The spell requires level 60 Magic and uses 3 cosmic runes and 30 air runes per orb (the air staff negates the need for the air runes, however.)

Air orbs are generally the best of the four types to make, for several reasons. First, they give more XP. Second, they are often in high demand because they give the most XP when used in Crafting. And finally, the air obelisk is the fastest one to access, and you don't have to dodge poison spiders as you do with the other three. Still, compare this method to charging water, earth or fire orbs, to see which is the most profitable based on prevailing GE prices.

Note that there is no advantage to level 90 skills over level 70 skills here, but at level 96 Summoning you can use a pack yak, which lets you make more orbs per hour.

Finally, remember that even though it takes a long time to do the charging, during which you could effectively multitask, you are in the Wilderness so it is wise to pay attention to what you're doing!

Specific Method Details

Equip an air staff (or other staff that provides air runes), charged amulet of glory, weight-reducing equipment and a forinthry brace -- the bracelet stops you from being teleblocked in the event of revenant attack. Also wear Varrock Armour 3 for a little lightweight defence against the monsters in the dungeon.

Starting at Edgeville, summon a war tortoise. Take out a pile of cosmic runes and 27 unpowered orbs. Put 18 orbs in the tortoise, then take out more orbs to fill your inventory. Go south to the entrance to Edgeville Dungeon, enter and run north to the Wilderness gate. Go through and run northwest past the thugs, chaos druids and skeletons. When you get to the black demons, veer north until you see a ladder. Go up and the air obelisk is right there.

Cast the Charge Air Orb spell on the obelisk, then choose to make all the orbs. When done, drop three on the ground to make inventory space and swap the charged orbs for the uncharged orbs in the tortoise.

..When you are done swapping orbs, pick up the three orbs you dropped and charge the remaining 18. Teleport back to Edgeville and repeat. You'll need to recharge your amulets at some point, of course.

If you are attacked by a revenant, run down the ladder, and you should be fine. Use your amulet of glory if necessary.
