Method Description, Instructions and Tips for Success

General Description

Larupia fur is used both to make camouflage gear for hunters and by Summoners for making pouches. It is not worth hunting at lower levels (as the larupia jumps the trap too often) but by around level 50 can be caught fairly quickly.

However, at level 50 you'll get a high percentage of tatty fur, which is basically worthless. At higher levels your percentage of good furs improves, and you can also access the town of Oo'glog, which conveniently has a bank right near the hunting location. (It also has pools that give you a Hunter boost, heal you and provide infinite run energy, though they aren't really needed here.)

There's little difference between level 70 and level 90 skills for this activity, but if you have level 96 Summoning the pack yak beast of burden is definitely useful.

For hunting these, be sure you are on a full world and you are on low detail mode. High detail mode looks pretty but that eye candy really slows you down as it makes it hard to find the traps and avoid obstacles.

Specific Method Details

You should wear a full set of larupia armor when hunting larupias, as this increases your chances of success. You should also wear weight-reducing gear and bring your woodcutting axe, knife and teasing stick.

Use the bank in Oo'glog as your base. Get there quickly using the charter ship from Catherby -- wear a ring of Charos (a) for a discount. You can use any of the pools if you wish, but they aren't really necessary. Head to the bank.

Take out and summon a pack yak, then withdraw willow logs, fill the familiar, repeat, and withdraw again to fill your inventory. The yak will allow you to hunt longer and increase the number of furs you get per hour.

Run northeast from the bank, take the agility shortcut and then head west to the larupia hunting area; this takes only about 30 seconds. Find the second eastern-most trap, which is oriented north/south and has a dead tree just to its northeast. There is one larupia that respawns exactly at the western edge of this pitfall, and you should try to hunt that one specifically as it saves you a lot of running around.

As you hunt, drop "tatty" larupia furs and keep the good ones. During breaks in the action, chop the tree near the pitfall to get more logs when you see it has respawned. Also bury the big bones as you get them for free Prayer XP.

As you continue hunting you will start to run out of logs because some of the larupias give tatty furs. Start to accumulate big bones when you have space for them; they can be used on an altar or sold. Be sure to remember to periodically take more willow logs from your pack yak and put some furs or bones in it instead. (Again, you can use any logs, willow is just the cheapest.)

Once you are out of logs, go back to Oo'glog via the Agility shortcut and bank there.

Each trip should take a little under half an hour; time it so you can do two trips for each pack yak. You can get about 95 good larupia furs and 25 or so big bones per hour.
