Method Description, Instructions and Tips for Success

General Description

Kyatt fur is used both to make camouflage gear for hunters and by Summoners for making pouches. They are tough to hunt but the good fur is extremely valuable, and they also provide good amounts of Hunter XP. This technique makes use of the arctic bear familiar, which is ideal for kyatt hunting. First and foremost, it can teleport you right to the area; it also acts as two pieces of camouflage (so you wear just one) and provides a silent +7 Hunter boost.

Be sure you are on a full world and you are on low detail mode. High detail mode looks pretty but that eye candy really slows you down as it makes it hard to find the traps and avoid obstacles.

Specific Method Details

Kyatts can do a lot of damage so you need to wear armor, but you want to keep weight down. I use Varrock armour 3 because of its moderate defence and low weight, adding to that a Helm of neitiznot, granite shield and amulet of fury. You can adjust the armor to suit your tastes. To these items, add the other gear you need for hunting: a woodcutting axe, teasing stick and knife. Also wear a ring of duelling.

To start, summon an arctic bear. Then take out a full inventory of willow logs (or others, but these are the cheapest). Use the bear to teleport, then run just a bit east to find a couple of pitfall traps. Use these to hunt the kyatts -- they tend to wander, which can be annoying, so try to find and repeatedly kill the one that spawns in the area.

As you hunt, drop the "tatty" kyatt furs and keep the good furs and big bones. You shouldn't run out of energy since it restores very quickly since the June 2009 energy update. Chop trees in the area to get more logs as needed; to save time, do this while waiting for the kyatts to walk into the traps. Bury big bones as needed to free more space for logs and furs. Continue with this process until your arctic bear familiar expires, about 28 minutes. Because kyatts are level 55, you'll get a lot of "tatty" furs; just be patient and keep going, and you should end up with around 15 good furs per trip.

Teleport to Castle Wars; bank your fur and bones, take out food to heal any damage taken, and repeat. There is a Summoning obelisk at Castle Wars as well.
