General Description

Red chinchompas are a powerful area attack ranged weapon very popular among players training combat. Hunting them provides good money and XP at level 70 Hunter, without the need for banking; at level 90 you of course do even better.

Great XP, moneymaking and no banking probably sounds good to you. Well it does to everyone else as well, and that's the Achilles' heel of red chinchompa -- crowding. Lots of hunters compete for only a few chins, which can lead to frustration, especially at peak times. Things have gotten a bit better recently due to game changes, but I still recommend avoiding this activity during busy periods.

Specific Method Details

Wear a full set of larupia armor when hunting, as this increases your chances of success. You should also wield a lunar staff or dramen staff. That's pretty much all you need.

Take out from the bank one or more arctic bear pouches (it provides a +7 Hunter bonus for faster catching) and 6 to 8 box traps. Get to Zanaris by using a ring of slaying to Rellekka and taking the fairy ring there, or teleporting to Edgeville, running northeast over the bridge and south to the fairy ring. Once in Zanaris, and go to code "A K S". South of the ring are two red chinchompa areas, which are easy to find as they nearly always have other players in them hunting. Find a spot where there is at most only one other player (don't bother trying to find an empty world unless playing at a very quiet time of day.) Set up your traps and start hunting, picking up or resetting the traps as needed.

Since chinchompas stack you can stay in the area hunting for a very long time, which is part of the appeal of this method. Note that the extra box traps are in case you lose some, since you don't need inventory space anyway. If you need to recharge Summoning points to bring out another arctic bear, there's an obelisk conveniently located just west of the fairy ring.

If the area is not too busy, count on about 240 chinchompas per hour. If it is very busy, that number will go down.
