In September 2009, Jagex added a new feature to RuneScape: the Living Rock Caverns. This new high-level area provides access to high-level Fishing, Mining and combat content, including two new types of fish: cavefish and rocktail.
Rocktail require level 90 Fishing, and are caught using regular fishing rods and living minerals as bait. When cooked, these are the best food in RuneScape; they heal 23 HP in a single bite. They can also temporarily raise your HP up to 10 points over the normal maximum (in a way similar to how Saradomin brews work.) This makes them quite valuable, and even though they are somewhat slow to catch, they provide good Fishing experience (380 XP each!)
The Living Rock Caverns are a dangerous place, patrolled by level 120 and level 140 rock guardians. These monsters are aggressive, but only if you get within one square of them; thus, they can usually be avoided, but you must be prepared to deal with them. For this reason, unlike normal fishing activities, you need a weapon and good combat gear for the occasional battle. There is a distinct advantage to being on a full world in this dungeon, because the more people there are, the less the chance of you personally being attacked. I recommend logging in to World 2, especially if you plan to do this for a while. |
