In September 2009, Jagex added a new feature to RuneScape: the Living Rock Caverns. This new high-level area provides access to high-level Fishing, Mining and combat content, including two new types of fish: cavefish and rocktail.
Cavefish require level 85 Fishing, and are caught using regular fishing rods and bait. When cooked, these fish heal 20 HP, like sharks, and they also provide a +2 bonus to a random combat stat. Cavefish fishing is slower than fishing for sharks, but they provide much higher XP: 300 each compared to only 110 for shark. This makes them a great choice for players who want to both make money and raise their Fishing skill.
The Living Rock Caverns are a dangerous place, patrolled by level 120 and level 140 rock guardians. These monsters are aggressive, but only if you get within one square of them; thus, they can usually be avoided, but you must be prepared to deal with them. For this reason, unlike normal fishing activities, you need a weapon and good combat gear for the occasional battle. There is a distinct advantage to being on a full world in this dungeon, because the more people there are, the less the chance of you personally being attacked. I recommend logging in to World 2, especially if you plan to do this for a while. |
