Method Description, Instructions and Tips for Success

General Description

Cave horrors are a great money monster. In addition to the chance at a black mask for Slayer (worth over 500k), they consistently drop large quantities of nature runes, noted teak logs, high-level herb seeds, some herbs and other goodies. There's a fair bit of randomness in the drops you get from these monsters. The black mask is rare -- I've sometimes gone many hours without getting one -- but I also once got 4 on a single Slayer assignment. I don't use a ring of wealth here, as I've never been able to determine for sure if it helps, but some people think it does.

The value of other drops is also quite random, especially herb seeds, which can range in value from under 1k to over 50k for snapdragon seeds. They also provide big bones on each drop, which you can carry home to increase your profits.

At level 96 Summoning, you can use the pack yak's large inventory in one of two ways. First, you could fill it with extra food so you stay longer fighting -- an hour long trip instead of 30-minute trips would easily be possible. But for the most moneymaking potential, I prefer instead to use its many slots to carry home dozens of extra big bones, herbs, and so forth, which adds to the profitability of this version of the combat method.

These monsters are fairly spread out in a large cave, so I recommend a full world for faster respawns.

Specific Method Details

Get to Mos Le' Harmless by talking to Bill Teach on his ship in Port Phasmatys or using the charter ships.

At the bank, equip dragonhide armor and witchwood icon; you also need a covered light source like a bullseye lantern or sapphire lantern.

Take out about 50 fire runes for alching (they drop natures frequently), a 4-dose super set, and a spirit terrorbird pouch. Then fill the rest of your inventory with cheap food like salmon. Put 10 of the food items in the terrorbird so you have room for drops. Then run north out of town, go east and then southeast past the jungle horrors, and go into the cave using the entrance near the coast. The best spot is just west and then south of the entrance, where there are three horrors in close proximity.

Take your first super set dose and start fighting the cave horrors; look carefully for respawns as they move around a fair bit. Pick up good drops and swap them for some of the food in your familiar as needed. If you start to run out of food before your inventory fills with gems, herbs and other non-stackable drops, start picking up big bones -- they are worth a fair bit of money.

Aim for a 30 minute trip if possible. When done, run back to the bank, store your drops and repeat. On the next trip you may wish to bring a couple of Tireless Run scrolls to restore run energy used up by the double trip to the bank and back.

Don't use a war tortoise here -- the terrorbird is more economical.
