I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Ankous are one of the best "money monsters" in the game, and are particularly popular because unlike monsters such as chaos druids or flesh crawlers, most of their good drops stack. These level 75 monsters are an excellent source of death runes, blood runes, noted pure essence and mithril ore, and adamant arrows. They also drop small numbers of herbs, herb seeds and other goodies. They even drop food for healing.
Killing ankous with level 50 skills is a challenge, and it's possible that other monsters would be a better choice, but it is still doable. One key to success is using Bones to Peaches tablets to let you stay for a long time with limited food. At high levels you have several advantages to help with ankous. First, you can get the enhanced Salve amulet; since ankous are undead, this helps with them tremendously. Second, you can use a bunyip, which heals 8 HP per minute automatically; this, combined with the ankous' food drops means you don't need to bring any, and can stay for long periods of time.
Like other good money monsters, the biggest problem with ankous is crowding, and for a long time the limit on how many ankous you could kill per hour was more a function of other players than the monsters themselves. This seems to have gotten better over the last few months, and if you world hop you should be able to find a server where you can fight continuously. This helps increase your profit rate significantly at higher levels.
