Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Description of Moneymaking Guide Index Pages

Sponsored links help make RuneScoop possible; RuneScoop members don't see them. See here for more information about ads.

The idea behind the Dynamic Moneymaking Guide is not just to describe a variety of methods to make money in RuneScape. I also want my readers to be able to easily contrast them, to see at a glance new ideas for making money they hadn’t considered before, and to identify the techniques that are the most profitable at any given time. The vehicle for accomplishing these goals is a large number of indexes which list either all of the moneymaking methods in the guide, or a specific subset that is of interest to certain classes of players.

I’ll now describe how these indexes are structured and tell you a bit about how to use them.

Index Types

With hundreds of methods and method variants, I realized that just having a single index would make it hard for you to find what you’re looking for. So I created a large number of indexes to let you sort and compare methods in the way that is right for you.

Regular and Limited Indexes

Most of the moneymaking methods in this guide are what I call regular methods; these are the type you can do continuously, making a certain amount of money per hour. There are also a smaller group of limited methods, where you do something for a short time and then must wait for an extended period before you can do it again.

Both regular and limited methods can be excellent ways to make money, but they are sufficiently different that it is not possible to compare them directly. For this reason, every index either lists regular or limited items, but not both.

Master Indexes

As you’d expect, I do have indexes that contain all of the various methods grouped together, for those who want to get the “big picture” about what the guide contains. There is one master index for regular methods and another for limited methods.

Level-Based Master Indexes

These indexes contain all regular or limited methods in the guide, but only for one of the level variants: very low, low, mid, high, very high or extremely high. These indexes are especially important for low-level and moderate-level players, so they can see methods that are relevant to them without having to sift through techniques they can’t really do.

There are 12 of these indexes, corresponding to the six level variants for both regular and limited methods.

Note that the extremely high level (XH) indexes are special. XH methods are only defined in certain cases where having skills or attributes above the VH level makes a method better. In other cases, extremely high level players would use the VH method, so if a method has no XH variant, its VH version is shown in the XH table.

Detailed Method Indexes by Type

Are you only interested in looking at moneymaking methods for a particular category? No problem: I’ve created more specific indexes for each of the high-level categories in the guide: skills, combat, gathering, player services, minigames and hybrid.

In addition to single indexes for each category, there are also sub-indexes by level, so for example, you can see just the mid-level combat methods.

Skill Methods Indexes by Skill Type

Skilling is the largest group of methods in the guide. Since there are so many methods here, and some skills interest certain players more than others, I created skill type indexes as well. These rank various methods for each of the following skills: Cooking, Fishing, Hunter, Magic, Mining, Runecrafting, Smithing, Summoning, Thieving and Woodcutting. (Note that there are some methods in other skills as well, but generally there are too few of those to justify an index.)

Again here, you can look at the methods for a particular skill type at all levels, or for a specific level.

Index Table Structures

The moneymaking method indexes all use two structures: one for regular methods and one for limited methods. The columns provide basic summary information about each method so you can compare techniques and sort the table.

All of the index tables have the following columns:

  • Method Name: The generic name of the method. This is a clickable link so you can quickly get to the detail page of any method level variant that interests you.

  • Method Level: The level abbreviation for this method variant: VL, L, M, H, VH or XH.

  • Category: The general category in which this method falls.

  • Subcategory: The subcategory within its category for this method.

  • Multitask Rating: A rating from 1 (Extremely Low) to 10 (Exceptionally High), that indicates approximately how suitable I feel the method is to being done while engaged in other activities, either within RuneScape or in other windows on your computer. This is often important to players who do boring things like fishing or cutting wood while talking to friends, catching up on forum postings or whatnot. Just to be clear, though: I do not advocate macroing, “AFKing” or playing RuneScape away from the computer.

In addition to these, regular methods also have the following column:

  • Hourly Profit: The approximate hourly profit that you can earn by undertaking this activity.

Limited methods include these columns instead:

  • Profit Per Instance: Roughly how much money you make each time you perform the activity.

  • Equivalent Hourly Profit (Elapsed Time): This is how much gold you make per hour doing this activity, taking into account the total amount of time needed between one instance and the next. For example, if a method makes 10,000 gp, it takes five minutes to do, and you can do it once every two hours, then the equivalent elapsed time profit is 5,000 gp per hour. This is mostly used to compare and rank limited methods.

  • Equivalent Hourly Profit (Active Time): This is how much gold you make per hour doing this activity, taking into account only how much actual time the method takes to do. To take the same example as above (a method that makes 10,000 gp, takes five minutes, and you can do every two hours), then the equivalent active time profit is 120,000 gp per hour. This is mostly used to compare and rank limited methods.
Using the Index Tables

When they load an index, most players want to see the most profitable methods first. Thus, by default, all index tables listing regular methods start out sorted in descending order by hourly profit; all limited method tables are sorted in descending order by profit per instance.

All of the index tables are sortable, though, provided that you have Javascript enabled on your computer. To change the order of the table, simply click on one of the other column headings—once for ascending order, or twice for descending order. For example, if you want to see all the methods sorted so the most “multitaskable” ones are at the top, just click the “Multitask Rating” header twice. Similarly, you may be more interested in the equivalent active time hourly profit for limited methods, so you can sort those tables that way.

You can also sort by two columns at once by clicking one, holding down the <Shift> key and clicking another. For example, to sort by category and then subcategory within each category, click the “Category” header, then hold down <Shift> and click the “Subcategory” header.
