Access Directions | The best way to get to these dragons now is to use the fairy ring network. To do this you must first enable the new fairy ring in the Ancient Cavern by traveling to its location in the far southwest of the cave while carrying a spade and 5 (bittercap) mushrooms. Click on the "Enchanted Land" you find there to make it into a fairy ring, which you can thereafter access using code "B J Q".
When you want to fight the dragons, get yourself ready and have a ring of slaying and lunar or dramen staff in your inventory. Rub the ring and teleport to Rellekka, then use the fairy ring just to the west of the Slayer Cave. Go to Zanaris, then enter code "B J Q". While standing in the fairy ring, take your potions, equip your real weapon, and it to its correct combat mode. Run east and you'll find the brutal dragons right there. |
Equipment | Brutal green dragons can be meleed or ranged; maging is not recommended.
For higher level players, meleeing is the fastest method; wear full Veracs and standard melee support gear. Bring with a weapon with a good special attack as well, such as a Saradomin godsword if you have one. I use an Ardougne cloak 3 for its stab bonus, prayer bonus, and teleport to the Monastery where there is a prayer altar.
For ranging, wear the best ranging gear you can. High ranged attack bonus is essential for reasonably quick kills. Aside from that, also try to wear items that give prayer bonuses, since you will usually want to use prayer when fighting to speed kills and cut down on damage.
If you're lucky enough to get assigned green dragons for Slayer, you can use a black mask or Slayer helmet for a substantial melee boost killing these monsters. |
Supplies | These monsters hit hard and have lots of valuable drops, so plan on short trips, and take only as many supplies as you need for the number of kills you'll get on each run. Trip duration will depend on what drops you are planning to keep (especially, if you are going to bank the dragon bones or bury them.) It also depends on your Summoning level and what beast of burden familiar you can bring with to help you carry drops. Fortunately, the new fairy ring in the Ancient Cavern makes accessing these dragons much faster than it used to be.
My standard technique is to melee using Veracs, using Deflect Magic and Turmoil and a pack yak familiar. A trip generally takes me about 15 minutes including travel time, and yields around 15 kills.
For each trip I bring one 2-dose extreme set, one 3-dose antifire potion, two 4-dose and one 2-dose prayer potion, 5 monkfish and 10 salmon. You do not need super antifire potions, because you are going to fight with Deflect Magic or Protection from Magic active; that and a regular antifire are sufficient for colored dragons.
If you don't have access to the ancient curses, use Protection from Magic and Piety, and increase the number of prayer potions (because Piety drains points faster than Turmoil). If using a smaller beast of burden, again, cut down on supplies and count on shorter trips.
For ranging I use adamant bolts, and bring with for each trip the following items: one 4-dose antifire potion, one 4-dose and one 2-dose ranging potion, two 4-dose and one 2-dose prayer potion, and 5 salmon. The food is not strictly needed but comes in handy if you accidentally take damage (such as from a dragon attacking you with melee when you go to grab drops.)
Note that you can also use enchanted diamond bolts instead, which will result in slightly faster kills, but at a much higher cost.
Finally, I strongly recommend a one-click teleport until you become accustomed to fighting these dragons. |
Familiar | Use the highest capacity beast of burden you can summon, to carry drops. |
Combat Notes | With melee and magic attacks that both hit up to 180, along with firebreath, brutal green dragons aren't to be underestimated. That said, they are quite doable if you are properly prepared, and have excellent drops.
The best way to deal with these is to melee using the Veracs set. It provides good melee defence, which you augment using Piety or Turmoil; these also speed up kills. It does not have good magic defence, so that's why Protection from Magic or Deflect Magic are important as well. As an added benefit, Veracs provides good prayer bonuses. I also use the Berserker curse to allow my stat boosting potions to last a little longer.
When meleeing, I recommend turning off auto-retaliate. As soon as you kill one dragon the next will immediately attack from a distance, and if you have auto-retaliate on you'll end up running back and forth trying to get your drops. This lack of a pause between kills can also make inventory management a hassle; remember that you can "use" an item on a beast of burden to store it in the familiar's inventory.
I use a ring of slaying, ring of duelling, lunar staff and Ardougne cloak 3 for trip management. At the start of a trip I teleport to Rellekka and use the staff to get to the fairy ring in Zanaris, then dial "B J Q" to get to the Ancient Cavern. When switching to Verac's flail, be sure to put it on the stab setting as dragons are weak to stab attacks. At the end of a trip, right-click the Ardougne cloak 3 and teleport to the Monastery. Recharge prayer, then use the ring of duelling to go to Castle Wars to bank. Then repeat the process.
Ranging is slower but simpler -- as long as you stand at a distance and keep Protection from Ranged or Deflect Ranged active, you won't get damaged. Just watch out for cheap shots when picking up drops. |
Drop Notes | Brutal green dragons are perhaps the single most underestimated dragon when it comes to drop quality. They provide dragon bones and two green dragonhides on each kill, but also a wide variety of excellent secondary drops. They are one of the best sources of blood runes in the game, and also provide good quantities of other items too: nature and law runes, adamant knives, adamant arrows and knives, and even items such as rune full helms and chainbodies. They are also pretty good charm droppers, though tending towards green. |
