Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Monkey Guard - Access and Combat Recommendations

Access Directions

The best place to fight these is in the temple on Ape Atoll, because there are many of the guards there, and an (unlimited) prayer altar.

The convenient way to get there is to use the Ape Atoll Teleport spell, unlocked after the Awowogei portion of Recipe for Disaster. Simply go down the stairs and you're ready for action. If you don't have the teleport, you need to go through the whole rigmarole you did during Monkey Madness.

Equipment

Wear prayer gear, and use the highest hitting weapon you have. Dharoks is perfect for these, though you do need to be careful because of reliance on prayer, and potential poison.

Ranging or maging is not advised.

Supplies

Use boosting potions such as extreme sets, or Zamorak brews and super strength potions, to increase your kill speed and XP rate. You also need super antipoisons because the spiders in the same area will poison even through your protection prayers.

Familiar

There are no familiars particularly well-suited to these monsters, so use a forager like a magpie.

Combat Notes

These are training monsters; they have a lot of life points and heal themselves, and really no drops. They hit very hard but you can protect against all of their damage with Protection from Melee.

Since you are fighting right next to an altar, there's no reason not to "go for the gusto" -- fight with Piety enabled, or if you are on the ancient curses, Turmoil is even better.

Using Piety or Turmoil is especially handy because these monsters have an annoying ability to heal themselves (substantially) when injured; if you can't land high hits, it can be very difficult to finish them off.

Be sure to watch your prayer points carefully, especially if using an enhancing prayer. The guards can hit high and it's multicombat, so if your prayer runs out, you may well be toast.

As mentioned earlier, there are poisonous level 1 spiders in the same area, so watch for "green splats" and use your super antipoisons. If you're Dharoking, just use super antis continuously.

Drop Notes

These drop only the guard variety of monkey bones.
