I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

TzHaar-Ket - Access and Combat Recommendations
Access Directions
The TzHaar City is most easily accessed by using fairy ring code "B L P"; run north to the bank. You can also go down into the volcano on Karamja and enter the city there.
The TzHaar-Ket are fairly spread out, but you can find several somewhat near each other in several locations; look around to find a spot not already occupied.
Equipment
These monsters hit hard but have just one attack and are near a bank, so you have a few options for meleeing. Mid-level players will be best off wearing prayer gear and using Protection from Melee. Higher-level players can do alright wearing high-defence Barrows gear and using potions and food, restocking as needed. Another option is to use Dharoks, but it is dangerous, and in my tests not all that much faster. Finally, it's possible to hally these, but it's very slow so I don't recommend it.
Mages and rangers can take advantage of safe spots, and so can wear their normal gear. This can be slow, however, and sometimes inconsiderate meleers will interfere.
Don't bother using a ring of wealth here (as I did in my original drop log) as it has no impact on your chances for a rare drop.
Supplies
Super sets are definitely recommended for meleeing, since these are high-level monsters; extreme sets are better if you can make them, of course. You'll need prayer potions if praying. You will need to bank frequently to deposit the (unstackable) obsidian charms they drop, so I use 2-dose potions and bank every 15 minutes or so; this frees up three extra spaces for drops on each mini-trip.
The need to bank often for drops also means you needn't bother with the best food; I just use salmon. Of course, if you're praying then you don't need food at all.
Rangers should use high-quality ammunition, such as adamant or broad-tipped bolts, or kills will take an eternity.
The area is multicombat and some find a combat familiar useful in speeding up kills. Note that obsidian charms are untradeable so a beast of burden is of little use here.

The area is multicombat and some find a combat familiar useful in speeding up kills. Note that obsidian charms are untradeable so a beast of burden is of little use here.
Combat Notes
Be very careful fighting these head-to-head unless you have high Defence (90+) and are wearing the right gear. They hit frequently and hard.
Rangers and mages will find many obstacles that can be used for safe spots. These include the mining rocks east of the bank.
The entire city is multicombat and very frequently busy; you may often encounter players trying to "steal your kills" or otherwise being a nuisance; try a less populated world or fight at a quieter time of day/week.
Drop Notes
These monsters have a rather small drop list that is focused around items native to their home, the TzHaar city. They commonly drop tokkul, the local currency, as well as pairs of obsidian charms, which are secondary ingredients in a couple of Summoning familiars. Their tokkul drops were significantly increased in 2009 as part of Jagex's realignment of shops in RuneScape, which removed the ability of players to sell items to shops in TzHaar to get tokkul.
Other common drops include 1-dose super strength and super defence potions, chilli potatoes, and gems. They occasionally drop onyx bolt tips, and rarely the obsidian cape, obsidian maul ("tzhaar-ket-om") or obsidian shield ("toktz-ket-xil").
2008-May-03 Note: This monster's drops, drop rate and/or kill rate have changed since this log was recorded -- it is included for historical reference.
