Access Directions | The fastest way to get here is to access the Abyss via the Zamorak mage. Go to the blood altar and then exit the ruins; follow the trail east and then south; the bloodvelds will be on the west side of the tunnel.
If you don't want to go into the Wilderness with a lot of expensive gear -- and I don't, personally -- there's a shortcut you can take from Canifis.
Go down the trap door behind the bar as if going to Mort'ton, then take the first cave entrance. Go due south past the tomb of Ivandis and you'll find another cave entrance leading to the tunnel to Meiyerditch. Walk through the serpentine tunnel until you get to the jutting wall and pass it (level 65 Agility required). Continue along the long tunnel until you get to the room of mutated bloodvelds on the west side. |
Equipment | Wear prayer equipment and your favorite weapon. A godsword is helpful for its Prayer bonus, especially the Saradomin version that can restore Prayer points.
It might be possible to Dharok these effectively as well, but I haven't tried it yet. I don't recommend fighting these without prayer because they hit hard with a magic-based melee attack and are in a multicombat zone. |
Supplies | Bring several 4-dose prayer potions, or less if using a godsword (especially the SGS). Zamorak brews and super strength potions are recommended to speed up kills, as these have a lot of LP.
If cannoning, obviously bring the four cannon parts and cannonballs as well.
Bring about 20 or 25 sets of alching runes. You may also use these to superheat ores, since the mutated bloodvelds drop unnoted coal and mith and addy ore. |
Familiar | Since the area is multicombat, a combat familiar can help speed up kills somewhat. Be careful though, as the magic-based melee attack of mutated bloodvelds hits familiars hard. Alternatively, bring a beast of burden for their many unnoted drops. |
Combat Notes | Mutated bloodvelds have fairly low defence and lots of LP, making them great for training or Slayer assignments -- especially since they can be cannoned.
Beware, though: these bloodvelds are aggressive, are in a multicombat area, and hit very hard. Add all that up, and you can see that fighting with prayer is strongly advised. It's possible a high-level player could do it without prayer, but it strikes me as not worth the risk or hassle. Definitely do not try it if cannoning!
There are also level 126 mutated bloodvelds in the room with the 146s; these are not aggressive (unless you're cannoning, of course.) You may on occasion also be attacked by a burrowing skeletal hand. |
Drop Notes | These monsters have poor drops for their level, and to make matters worse, most are unnoted. You'll get some ores and coal, some alchable mid-grade armor and weapons, and mostly gold charms. Be sure to carry out the raw cave eels if possible, as they are surprisingly valuable. |
