Access Directions | These waterfiends are located in the uncovered Ghorrock Fortress just west of the Ice Plateau in the deepest part of the Wilderness.
If you plan to go fight these regularly, I recommend being on either Lunar Magicks or Ancient Magicks. Both have teleports that take you right to the Ice Plateau, and the fortress is just to the west. Those on the regular spellbook have a couple of alternatives. The best is to use a lava titan familiar; it will teleport you to the entrance to the lava maze, and you can run northwest from there to the fortress. Otherwise the best option is probably to use one of the teleport levers to get to the Wilderness, and run a long way to the west.
Of course, the more time you spend in the Wilderness, the greater the chance of revenant attack.
The fortress itself is surrounded by aggressive iron and steel dragons -- I recommend taking a super antifire or antifire potion at the bank before leaving, and if using a regular antifire, supplement with an anti-dragon shield. One at the fortress, follow the same sequence you did in The Temple at Senntisten and go to the bottom floor to find the waterfiends. |
Equipment | Fighting these waterfiends generally requires the same equipment as the regular ones; see the discussion of the Waterfiend {Ancient Cavern} for equipment recommendations.
Note, however, that an anti-dragon shield may be required if you want to avoid firebreath attack by the dragons that surround the fortress. |
Supplies | While you generally need the same supplies to fight these waterfiends as the ones in the Ancient Cavern, the more distant location means you can't count on banking regularly. Since one of the most common ways of getting to the area is the use of a lava titan familiar, which would preclude bringing a beast of burden, I recommend bringing decent quality food (monkfish for example), along with the usual complement of enhancing potions (super/extreme sets). A couple of prayer potions would also be a good idea, if you want to stay for a while.
Be sure to bring alching sets for the armor and weapon drops. |
Familiar | If you are on Ancient Magicks or Lunar Magicks, use a beast of burden to carry in extra supplies and allow you to keep more drops. Alternately, summon a bunyip; It heals continuously, and also lets you make use of the fiends' frequent raw fish drops via Swallow Whole scrolls.
If you are using a lava titan to get to the fortress, definitely use a bunyip once you begin actual combat. |
Combat Notes | I have written an extensive, dedicated Waterfiend Guide that tells you everything you need to know in order to combat them effectively. Even though these waterfiends are in a different location and have slightly different drops, fighting them is pretty much the same. See the discussion of the Waterfiend {Ancient Cavern} for a summary of combat suggestions..
In theory it is possible to cannon these waterfiends, but I have not tried. |
Drop Notes | These waterfiends have mostly the same drops as their traditional brethren, but unfortunately, they are inferior when it comes to charms. And of course, charms are what people fight waterfiends for. They will actually drop two charms at a time instead of the usual one, and they sill favor crimsons. However, they drop charms far less frequently -- where the normal waterfiends give one charm about 95% of the time, these give two charms but only about 30% of the time! So the net result is far fewer charms per hour. Combine that with their obscure location, and these hold little appeal for most players.
The mundane drops of these waterfiends are similar in many ways to the other type, but they provide a few additional items, including one-dose Zamorak brews and Saradomin brews, noted gold ore and coal, and even cannonballs. They also drop single noted diamonds, but this appears to be a fairly rare drop. |
