Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Aquanite - Access and Combat Recommendations

Access Directions

Aquanites are located in a special cave at the end of the Rellekka Slayer Dungeon. Use a ring of slaying to get quickly to the cave entrance; if you can't make them yet, access the fairy rings and dial in code "A J R".

Walk west past the cave crawlers; if you have level 81 Agility, use the spiked blade jump shortcut to take you to the pyrefiend room, then walk west to the basilisks room, use the crevice shortcut to the turoths, and continue west to the kurasks, then veering south to the aquanite room.

If you have level 62 Agility (or can get to that with a potion or pie), then walk around through the rockslugs and cockatrices, then take the crevice shortcut to the turoths and continue to the kurasks and then aquanites.

If you can't get to level 62 Agility, you must run all the way through the dungeon, past the cave crawlers, rockslugs, cockatrices, pyrefiends, basilisks, jellies, turoths and kurasks. And yes, it takes a long time. :) You may want to bring an energy potion.

Equipment

Aquanites use a magic attack that is pretty potent, hitting often even with high magic defence armor. Some players like to fight them wearing Karil's, but I found that I took too much damage trying this, even when using a bunyip for both its automatic healing and its scroll ability. So, I switched to wearing prayer gear and using Deflect Magic. This is mostly effective, but the aquanites have an annoying special attack that can turn your prayer off, so you need to pay attention even when praying.

Aquanites are weak to stab and ranged attacks. In my tests, the leaf-bladed sword used for its neighbor, the kurask, was more effective than an abyssal whip. I would imagine that a Zamorakian spear would also work well, and perhaps even better than the leaf-bladed sword and rune defender combo.

Supplies

If attempting to fight without prayer, you'll need a significant amount of food. Even if you do use prayer, you'll need some food anyway, because of the special attack that turns prayer off -- the aquanite will "sneak in" an attack or two even if you quickly turn your prayer back on. If you do pray, then bring three to five 4-dose prayer potions per hour, depending on your equipment and levels.

A few sets of alching runes can be useful here, though you don't need them often.

If using a bunyip, bring Swallow Whole scrolls.

Familiar

The "classic" recommendation for these is to use a bunyip, which heals 80 life points per minute and also lets you eat the raw fish dropped by the aquanites, via its scrolls. However, be aware that these don't drop that many fish, and if you are unlucky you may run out of food rather quickly.

My preference is to use a beast of burden. I fill it with extra inexpensive food to take in, and then use it to bring big bones and other items out when done with combat.

Combat Notes

These aren't aggressive and can be killed fairly routinely, but keep an eye on your health if fighting without prayer, and watch for the annoying special attack if fighting with it.

If you are fighting with prayer and find yourself low on food -- perhaps because you didn't notice it getting disabled -- there's a trick you can use if you have level 92 Prayer and ancient curses enabled. Start out each kill by putting on Soul Split, taking one quick hit and then immediately switching to Deflect Magic. Done right, you can heal back some damage at a minimal prayer point cost.

Drop Notes

Most of the newer high-level monsters that Jagex has added to RuneScape have had pretty good drops -- these guys are not among them. They do have their one rare special drop, the amulet of ranging, but their regular drops are rather uninspiring. You'll get small numbers of good runes, a few herbs, a couple of seeds, some noted snape grass and seaweed. Pretty mundane. They aren't even good charm droppers.
