I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

There are two places where you can fight vyrewatch -- either in the town of Meiyerditch, where they are traditionally found, or in a new area on the eastern outskirts of Burgh de Rott. There are pros and cons to each.
The main advantage of fighting in Meiyerditch is that the vyrewatch are not aggressive there (though they will occasionally try to blood-tithe you.) This means you can fight the ones you want (i.e., the 110s). The disadvantage of Meiyerditch is that it is much farther from a bank, and the vyres are more spread out so you waste time chasing them down.
In contrast, Burgh de Rott's vyres are closer to the bank there, but they are aggressive, so you have to either fight or run from the higher-level vyres that attack. Despite this, it's still faster and thus my recommendation.
To fight the vyres in Meiyerditch, use the boat from Burgh de Rott as you did during the Legacy of Seergaze quest. Climb up the wall, then down, then go through the hole to get into the town. There are several vyrewatches (including at least two 110s) right there.
To fight in Burgh de Rott, just run east from the bank until you see the vyres. The best spot is past the cross-shaped rock formations into the middle of the forest area. You'll find two 110s near each other that you can fight. Occasionally a 120 or 130 may also attack you, but if you place yourself carefully you can mostly avoid this. They will also eventually become unaggressive so you can just do the 110s.
Equipment
You can kill these either with our without prayer. If using prayer, then wear your usual prayer-boosting gear and the Ivandis flail. If fighting without prayer, use high-defence Barrows gear for armor, and of course, the Ivandis flail.
Note that while the Guthans warspear won't hurt vyres, you can heal using it. Despite that, I find this counterproductive since you aren't doing damage; the bank is not far so I just use food.
Supplies
Each vyrewatch drops one corpse and nothing else when killed, so you are going to have to bank every 28 kills at the very least; use this as the basis of your planning. (You can't put the corpses in a beast of burden, either.) I have found that when concentrating on level 110 vyres, I can get about one kill per minute. I take with one 4-dose super set and drink a dose before starting and every 7 kills thereafter. For food, I've found that a few pineapple pizzas is sufficient; adjust based on your skill levels and equipment. Also, if you plan to fight the higher-level vyrewatch, you'll definitely need more food.
For fighting with prayer, use Zamorak brews and super strengths instead of super sets, and add prayer potions.
Familiar
For fighting the vyrewatch, I recommend a healing familiar like a bunyip to save on food costs. For pyring the vyre corpses, use your highest capacity beast of burden (but see the caveats below).
Combat Notes
Vyrewatch are obviously special monsters, but aside from the need to use the Ivandis flail, they are pretty much just your standard hard-hitting, high-level melee monster and can be treated as such.
I've found the slash option on the Ivandis flail more effective than the crush mode. Note that every time you pyre 50 corpses you will get a message indicating that you've become more proficient with the flail, which speeds kills somewhat.
For higher-level players, I recommend fighting without protection prayers, since again, the bank is close by in Burgh de Rott if you need more supplies. Stick the 110s as described above and watch your health, and you'll be fine. If a higher-level vyre is annoying you, you can try trapping it behind trees or other obstacles so you can return the 110s. But the 120s only have 100 more LP, so it's no big deal. When fighting, be careful that the vyrewatch is not over water or other obstacles when you deal the killing blow, or its corpse will be lost.
Once you have a bunch of vyre corpses, you have to pyre them (as you learned in the quest) to get the rewards (as anemic as they are, ahem.) For this you need one pyre log teak or above; maple are the cheapest and easiest to make. Use the maple logs on sacred oil to make maple pyre logs; the oil can be made at the temple in Mort'ton or bought on the Grand Exchange.
When ready, load up your inventory with vyre corpses, maple pyre logs and a tinderbox and head to the temple on the Salve. Wear weight-reducing gear, an amulet of glory and a dramen or lunar staff.
Start in Edgeville and run east to the fairy ring there; go to code "C K S", then run northwest to the temple. Go down the ladder, north then west to the gate, through it and downstairs (as you did during the quest.) You can do at most 13 corpses per trip without a beast of burden; with one you can do more per trip, but bear in mind that the beasts can only carry pyre logs, not remains.
I used a bull ant, which carried 9 logs; I carried 9 more and 18 remains. It takes about 7 minutes to fully process 18 sets of remains, so that works out to 42 level 110 vyrewatch killed and pyred per hour. If doing all levels of vyrewatch, I was able to get around 36 per hour.
Note that you can speed up the pyring by using two funeral pyre spots; start laying down the logs and remains on the second one while waiting for the prior one to complete its cool animation.
To get the rewards, click on one of the wooden recess spots on the wall; they are all the same. You have to do this once for each key.
Drop Notes
Vyrewatch drop only corpses when killed; the other drops listed below are ones you can get when pyring their corpses. This process is very similar to that of burning shades are part of the Shades of Mort'ton minigame. On the whole, the rewards you get for pyring vyre corpses are rather mediocre, so I don't recommend doing this if loot is your ultimate goal.
