I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Scabaras Ranger - Access and Combat Recommendations
Access Directions
These monsters are mainly found in the underground area you visit during the quest Dealing with Scabaras.
Easiest access to the dungeon requires you to have used a rope to create the Agility shortcut from the Agility Pyramid area. Then use a Pharaoh's sceptre to teleport to the Agility Pyramid, or run to that spot from Sophanem.
Use the rope and run past the mummies and over the low wall. Head east, then north to the dungeon entrance. Note that while running outside you may take desert heat damage, but not in the dungeon itself.
Once in the dungeon, head west, watching for and disarming the floor trap. Continue west and you'll come to a dangerous multicombat area towards the south, with Scabaras lancers, rangers and mages. Be careful if you continue west, as there are more traps.
There's also one Scabaras ranger in a group of other scabarites in the swamp area well east of Sophanem. Please refer to the discussion of the Locust Ranger for directions and more information.
Equipment
Fighting these monsters in the dungeon is extremely dangerous and difficult because of monsters using all three attack styles in a multicombat area, and especially the mages which have a nasty attack.
Your best bet is to wear Veracs and other gear to maximize melee and Prayer bonuses, and use Protection from Magic.
You may instead prefer to fight in the swamp area to the southeast; see the discussion of the Locust Ranger for details.
Supplies
To fight in the dungeon you will need super sets, prayer potions, good food, and a healing familiar is very useful.
You must bring with antipoison potions and also Relicym's balm, in case you get poisoned or diseased either from failed traps or the brutal attack of the Scabaras mages.
I also strongly recommend a one-click teleport!
For supplies recommendations for fighting in the swamp area, see the discussion of the Locust Ranger.
Familiar
In the dungeon you should definitely use a healing familiar.
For familiar recommendations for fighting in the swamp area, see the discussion of the Locust Ranger.
Combat Notes
As mentioned above, the dungeon with the Scabarites in it is a really nasty place. The mages have a particularly obnoxious attack that can poison and disease you. And even worse, it can poison even if you've taken a longer-acting super antipoison!
My main combat recommendation is simply to avoid the dungeon altogether. It's much easier and more efficient to just fight the small number of scabarites in the swamp area, which has the disadvantage of being in the desert but has none of the nasty mages. Please refer to the discussion of the Locust Ranger for full combat information.
If you really want to fight in the dungeon, your main objective is simply to survive until the monsters lose aggressiveneess, and that starts with avoiding those mages. Try to "pick off" one or two of the lancers or rangers as they wander away from the main area. A combat familiar with a ranged or magic special attack could be useful for "getting the attention" of one of these monsters.
Drop Notes
Most players detest fighting these monsters because of the mix of combat styles and the distant location, but they do have pretty good -- and widely varied -- drop table. They provide decent amounts of blood and lava runes, two herbs at a time, and plenty of gems (again, often two at a time). They are also a good source of addy and rune arrows, and they drop alchables like adamant kiteshields and rune warhammers.
