I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Cave Bug - Access and Combat Recommendations
Access Directions
The primary location of these larger variants on cave bugs is the Dorgesh-Kaan South Dungeon; you need to have completed Death to the Dorgeshuun to access it. Get there using fairy ring code "A J Q"; you'll need a covered light source like a lantern. The bugs are in a few spots; my favorite is found by walking east from the fairy ring, then going north a bit and then west until you reach a north/south corridor with both level 6 and level 96 cave bugs.
The alternative spot in the Chaos Tunnels has the advantage of several of the bugs being in close proximity, and the room is right where you enter, so no need to worry about portals going awry. The drawback is it is pretty far away. To get there, run north and then northeast to the far northeastern entrance to the tunnels and then go down the rift. Watch out for revenants!
Equipment
Moderately high level players may wish to use Guthans with a faster weapon, switching to the warspear to heal if needed. Higher level players don't need Guthans, especially if using a healing familiar. I recommend against using Dharoks here, as the high defence of these monsters results in a lot of misses.
It is also possible to range or mage them by trapping them along walls or obstacles, so you can wear standard ranging or magic equipment for this.
Supplies
Bring super sets and food of an appropriate quality given your level and how long you plan to fight.
You don't need alching runes for these.
Familiar
Use a healing familiar.
Combat Notes
These can hit quite hard but are otherwise straightforward melee monsters. They do have rather high defence, though.
Be careful not to accidentally click on cave slimes or cave crawlers in the Dorgesh-Kaan dungeon, as they are poisonous.
The swamp weed drops can be burned to soda ash like seaweed and so would be useful if it were noted -- but alas, it is not, so it mostly goes to waste.
Drop Notes
Jagex added these to the game to provide a higher level variation of the regular, low level cave bugs, but didn't give them very good drops. A few runes and herbs, along with some green charms, is about all you can expect here. That, and a lot of swamp weed,
which would be useful if it were noted -- but alas, it is not, so it mostly goes to waste.
