I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Cockroach Soldier - Access and Combat Recommendations
Access Directions
First complete the Stronghold of Player Safety. Then use the rope to exit to the surface; thereafter you can enter via the crevice just northwest of the stronghold.
The most convenient place to fight is right in the room with the rope, but other people have the same idea so it is frequently crowded. An alternative is to go back to the treasure chest floor, where there are several more soldiers. They are a bit more spaced out, but there are many more of them, and fewer players around.
Equipment
Standard melee gear is fine; even rune armor will suffice. You could also try Dharoking, but see the caveats below.
For ranging, regular ranged armor will do, using a rune crossbow with addy or mithril bolts. Try to keep ranged defence up, or use prayer boosting items with Protection from Ranged.
Supplies
You will need a small amount of food if meleeing. If ranging, you'll need more food or prayer potions depending on your method.
Bring about 10 alching sets, and enhancing potions if you want your kills to go faster.
Familiar
The area is multicombat, so a combat familiar could also be worthwhile, but probably only for mid level players (high level players kill these too quickly.)
Cockroach soldiers don't have a lot of unnoted drops, so a beast of burden isn't too useful; that leaves either a healing familiar or a forager.
Combat Notes
These are easy to kill, but trying to speed up kills with methods like Dharoks will be limited by competition, the small number of monsters, and their slow respawn rate.
You can also range these, but if you are out of melee range they will fight back with their own ranged attack, which actually hits harder than their melee attack.
Drop Notes
These monsters were added as part of the Stronghold of Security and Jagex gave them pretty good drops as an enticement for players to check out the stronghold. They give good quantities of noted mithril and adamantite ore, plenty of runes, the occasional herb seed, rune scimitars, and also good amounts of charms (with a bias towards the useful crimson charms).
The huge range of quantities on rune drops (1-20) for deaths and laws can result in some lopsided totals, as here: 178 laws and only 16 deaths, both far from typical.
Fewer kills due to not using super attack/strength pots.
