I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Cave Horror - Access and Combat Recommendations
Access Directions
Get to the island by speaking to Bill Teach on his ship in Port Phasmastys or using the charter ships. Then bank on the island.
Take the northern exit from town, and run east and then southeast past the jungle horrors, until you find a cave entrance near the coast.
Cave horrors are spread throughout the dungeon. My favorite location is in a room just west and then south of the entrance, where there are three of them reasonably close together. If anyone else is already there, switch worlds.
Equipment
For meleeing, wear high magic defence gear, such as dragonhide armor or Karil's, and bring your favorite weapon. For maging or ranging, bring typical gear; nothing special is required.
You also must wear a witchwood icon (available from Slayer masters) and bring a light source.
Supplies
Even when properly equipped, cave horrors hit often and do a fair bit of damage, so you will need a decent amount of food. Super sets are also recommended; the super defence will cut down on food use and the others speed up kills.
Since these have a lot of good drops, I bring mid-level food like lobsters, use it up while collecting drops, and bank after about 30 minutes. (I used pineapple pizzas in one of my drop logs, but that was when they were cheap.) As an alternative, you could bring better food or even load up a beast of burden with extra food to avoid having to bank and to carry drops. Mid-level players will need more food, of course.
Bring with about 50 fire runes (they drop natures), a chisel for the frequent uncut sapphire drops, and a tinderbox so the unnoted mahogany logs don't go to waste.
Familiar
Two options here: a healing familiar or a beast of burden. With big bones now consistently worth more than 500 gp each, you can make a lot of money by banking these using a beast of burden -- more than enough to cover the cost of slightly better food instead of using a bunyip, for example.
Combat Notes
Cave horrors have low defence and few life points so they are easy to kill quickly, especially if meleeing.
You can also easily mage or range the horrors. There are safe spots all over the cave because of the horrors' large size and the many obstacles in the tunnels.
You can bury the big bones for Prayer XP but in my tests I did not.
Trying to speed up kills by using Dharoks, for example, is generally counterproductive, because there are so few horrors in any given area and you just end up waiting for respawns.
Drop Notes
These are good money monsters with an eclectic selection of drops. In addition to big bones on every kill and the chance at a black mask, you will get lots of nature runes, some herbs and high-level herb seeds, limpwurt roots and logs. They are also pretty good charm droppers, and one of the few Slayer monsters that gives mostly crimsons.
As you can see, the black mask makes little difference on a monster with low defence and few life points. Note also the lower charm drops since the June 2008 update -- it's not clear yet if this is a "nerfing" or just random variation.
Can drop multiple items, including two herbs, some seeds and a charm at once.
