I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Zygomite - Access and Combat Recommendations
Access Directions
Get to Zanaris easily from any fairy ring, and bank in the northwest corner.
These monsters appear as squat orange mushrooms with dark spots sitting on the ground just northeast of the bank, near the furnace. When you try to "pick" one, it turns out that this mushroom was the top part of the zygomite's body, which will pop out of the ground and attack you.
Equipment
These have a magic-based melee attack so wear high magic defence gear, such as dragonhide armor.
Wear a black mask or Slayer helmet when on Slayer assignments.
Supplies
You need a fungicide spray and fungicide cannisters. Each cannister will kill 10 zygomites; once you finish a cannister, use another one on the spray to refill it. Slayer masters sell these materials (and they sometimes drop more fungicide.)
Be sure to bring extras (especially if doing these for a Slayer assignment) as you will waste one if you use it too early.
As always, use super sets to increase kill count. These are very close to a bank so I just use cheap food like salmon and refill when needed.
Familiar
Use a healing familiar here -- a bunyip is great. (You don't technically need it, but it saves you food and hassle.)
Combat Notes
It is best to use autoretaliate after picking a fungus, since if you try to attack too soon it won't work and just wastes your time.
You can use fungicide on the zygomite when it is nearly red-barred, but you'll waste a dose if you try too soon. You also get a message in your chat box when the monster is nearly dead.
These monsters can hit pretty hard for their level, but since they are so close to a bank there's really no problem killing them. Just remember the fungicide and refill the sprayer when necessary.
Note that if you try to pick a fungus when a zygomite from a different spawn is in the area, that one will attack you instead, even from a distance.
Finally, be prepared for the usual annoyances while in Zanaris, such as being changed into animals and talking frogs. Some of these will even briefly make you unable to continue in combat.
Drop Notes
In addition to being annoying to fight, another reason zygomites are despised is their rather anemic drops. Their drop list was improved somewhat in 2008, and the higher value of items like mort myre fungus these days helps a bit, but overall, they aren't great. If you need strawberry seeds for Farming, though, they are great. :)
2008-May-07 Note: This monster's drops, drop rate and/or kill rate have changed since this log was recorded -- it is included for historical reference.
