I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Mountain Troll - Access and Combat Recommendations
Access Directions
The best place to fight these is near the entrance to the Troll Stronghold, assuming you have completed Eadger's Ruse to unlock the Trollheim Teleport spell. If so then bank anywhere, then cast the spell. Go down the rocks just north of where you arrive, then run southwest and down off the mountain, then go west; you'll find a bunch of the trolls right there. You can also fight these monsters in the stronghold itself. Run north to the entrance and a couple will be right there for you, and there's more on the floor just below as well.
If you can't cast Trollheim Teleport, you're better off fighting these at the Death Plateau, though you need to watch out for other monsters in the area. Teleport to Burthorpe, then run west and north taking the path you traversed during the Troll Stronghold quest. Be sure to put on ranged protection to get past the thrower trolls, then clamber up onto the plateau and there are several trolls there. Beware of "Stick" and "Rock", two high-level trolls that hit very hard!
Equipment
These monsters can be meleed, ranged or maged from safe spots, or hallyed. Use standard ranging or maging gear; if meleeing, extremely high level players can get by with standard melee gear, but those with mid to high levels should use Barrows for higher defence.
If meleeing, wear a black mask or Slayer helmet if on a Slayer assignment.
Supplies
For meleeing bring super sets and a moderate amount of food depending on your level. If you plan to bank the big bones they drop, you can also use cheaper food.
For ranging bring ranging pots and ammunition, and for maging, appropriate runes.
Bring about 20 sets of alching runes as they frequently drop armor and weapons.
Familiar
Use a healing familiar if you plan to stay for longer trips, or a beast of burden if you are banking big bones.
Combat Notes
While mountain trolls have inferior drops to higher-level trolls, they are much easier to kill, making them a decent choice for Slayer assignments.
Drop Notes
These monsters have drops similar to those of the Troll Generals, but not as good -- they don't drop rune warhammers or granite shields. As mentioned above, they drop big bones, and if you can use Trollheim Teleport, banking them is quite feasible (though obviously slower than burying them on site.)
