I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Aviansie - Access and Combat Recommendations
Access Directions
Teleport to Trollheim, go down the rocks and run to the north, putting on Protection from Ranged before getting near the thrower trolls (unless you're over 134 combat). Take the crevice (60 Agility) or move the boulder (60 Strength) to get to the ice area. Put on Protection from Melee and walk northeast to the entrance. A rope is needed on your first visit.
Once you enter the dungeon, head southwest. The best spot is near the gorak that hangs around in the area where the geyser is in the southwest corner of the dungeon.
Equipment
If you plan to use prayer, choose equipment that balances prayer bonus with either ranged or magic attack, as appropriate. If not praying, then either use your best ranged gear or magic gear. I recommend a rune crossbow for rangers.
When fighting without prayer you must wear a piece of Armadyl equipment, or every aviansie will attack you. This can be a piece of Armadyl ranging armor (if you can afford it), otherwise the Pendant of Armadyl, which you get at the end of the quest Temple of Ikov.
If you are fighting with prayer, the Armadyl gear is not important, and in fact, it is arguably easier to fight without it.
In addition to the Armadyl equipment, I strongly recommend a piece of Zamorak gear as well, as there are numerous Zamorak monsters in the area. This includes the very strong gorak, which hits up to 150 and ignores protection prayers! A piece of Saradomin gear is less essential, as the Saradomin monsters are more easily avoided, but still useful.
The typical way to incorporate these items is to wear the Pendant of Armadyl, a Saradomin coif and an unholy book (which is the best off-hand item for rangers anyway.) Higher level players should use an Armadyl helmet and amulet of fury instead.
Supplies
If ranging, I suggest good ammunition; I used to use adamant bolts, but broad-tipped bolts are just as good and quite a bit cheaper, so use those if you can. If you are praying and trying to poison multiple aviansies at once to get more drops, use enchanted emerald bolts instead.
For maging, use whatever spell you feel best balances cost and kill speed. While most players range these, they can be effectively maged using Slayer dart or one of the wave spells, or even fire bolt with chaos gauntlets.
Ranging potions are advised for rangers, and super defence potions for those fighting without prayer. Even though ranging potions are quite pricey these days, getting even a couple of extra drops per hour pays for them.
If praying, you need prayer potions; if not praying, you have to devise a healing strategy. Higher-level players can get by with a load of decent food and a healing familiar; at first I used pineapple pizzas, but they are quite pricey right now, so I use jugs of wine and strawberry baskets. The wine is perfect for this as it reduces the Attack skill (which you don't need) while healing 110 LP at a very low cost.
Mid-level players can stay longer in the dungeon by bringing with Bones to Peaches tablets or runes (they drop waters, so you need earths and natures). Another option is to use Saradomin brews and super restores, mixing food and prayer. The aviansies also occasionally drop five (unnoted) swordfish. This can be quite useful, though it's not something you can count on (sometimes you get several of these drops in an hour, and other times none at all.)
Finally, be sure to bring plenty of alching runes for the many rune daggers and runite limbs these monsters drop.
Familiar
You have a few options here. If fighting without prayer, I strongly recommend a healing familiar, like the bunyip. If fighting with prayer using enchanted bolts, consider a combat familiar if you are able to summon a decent one -- it can help you get more kills. Finally, a beast of burden is always an option, to help carry in extra food and carry out extra drops.
You'll fight all of them at once, though you're best off to focus on the level 69, 71 and 89 aviansies. The level 83 for some reason has far more LP than the others and takes longer to kill; the level 131 hits much harder than the others. This isn't a problem if you're praying, but if you are, getting hit for a maximum of 80 is better than 150, and they all seem to have the same drops. If you do fight a level 131, you may wish to temporarily turn on Protection from Ranged even if you are mostly fighting without prayer.
The biggest problem with aviansies these days is that they have such good drops that they are often crowded. If you don't like competing for monsters, this is not the activity for you. For this reason, higher level players may prefer to instead fight the tougher aviansies within the Armadyl stronghold.
One key trick of the God Wars Dungeon is that the monsters fight each other, but if you do even one point of damage before a monster dies, you get the drop (unless another player does even more damage, of course.) Take advantage of this by looking for aviansies fighting other monsters and attacking them. They will attack you but the other monster will keep damaging it, and you get the kill credit. The best monster for this is the gorak; keep an eye on it and fight whatever it is fighting. Just be sure not to attack it by mistake! Fortunately it is high enough level that this requires a right-click for all players.
If you are praying, you can get more kills by using poison bolts and attacking many aviansies. Range each one until it is poisoned, then finish them off one at a time. As you fight one, the others will slowly reduce in LP due to the poison. Only try this if there aren't a lot of other people around, though; it's inconsiderate to "hog" all the monsters when others want to fight them too.
Drop Notes
As implied above, aviansies are superb drop monsters -- so good, in fact, that crowding at them is routine. Their main attraction is the noted adamantite bars they drop, 4 at a time, roughly 1 in every 4 kills. But they also have many other excellent drops: feathers (now quite valuable), lots of runes, runite limbs and poisoned rune daggers, and even herbs.
You will need several open inventory spaces to collect stackable drops, so keep that in mind when planning supplies. A beast of burden can be very helpful in carrying back drops; otherwise, you'll have to leave lots of items behind. This is particularly the case with their unnoted antipoison potions, as well as the unnoted swordfish they drop (especially if you are using prayer.)
Most players alch the runite limbs and rune daggers. However, if you do have inventory space left (at the end of a trip, perhaps) you can try taking home some of the daggers to sell -- they are poisoned, so sometimes you can sell them for quite a bit more than alch value.
