I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.
One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.
If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.
Thanks for your understanding!
Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Infernal Mage - Access and Combat Recommendations
Access Directions
The fastest way to the Slayer Tower is by using the new ring of slaying. If you haven't earned the ability to make these yet, get there quickly by walking northwest from Canifis, or use the "C K S" fairy ring. Go north past the crawling hands, then east and south through the banshee area. Head up the stairs and head north and you'll find the infernal mages there.
Infernals can also be found in the Chaos Tunnels, and in fact are in two different rooms. To get to the closer one of these, bank in Edgeville or at the Grand Exchange, then cross into the Wilderness on the GE side of the bridge. Run northwest, then north, to a crevice that lands you in the Giant Rock Crab room. Run to to southern end of the room and take the portal there; you'll be in a room with Zamorak warriors and mages. Run southeast and take another portal to the room with the infernal mages. (The other room is further away and also has aggressive Zamorak warriors in it, so it's not worth the bother.)
Equipment
These are mages and so obviously use a magic attack; your choices are to try to defend with armor or use prayer. If the former, wear Karil's armor unless using a good healing familiar, in which case black dragonhide is sufficient. (My log here shows me wearing Karil's, but maxed players can skip that and save the repair costs.)
Infernal mages are killed most quickly using melee, though you can range them as well (especially since ranging gear provides great magic defence.) Maging them is not really advised.
A black mask or Slayer helmet will help speed up kills if you are meleeing while on assignment. You can also use Dharoks (with prayer!)
Supplies
If fighting with prayer, bring with Zamorak brews and super strength potions, along with a few prayer pots. If not using prayer, bring super sets and a load of low-end or decent food, depending on your level.
Bones to Peaches is an option for mid-level players who have unlocked the spell. It is very effective when fighting infernal mages since they drop bones, water rune and earth runes. They also don't drop many other items that would fill your inventory, so you can collect and transform the bones easily.
Familiar
Use a healing familiar here, period -- it will allow you to bring cheaper food and save you a lot of money in the long run.
Combat Notes
It always seems to be the case that a level 66 monster with a magic attack hits far harder against the best magic defence armor than a level 66 monster with a melee attack hits against the best melee armor. So while these guys look like pushovers, watch out as they can pile on the damage when you aren't looking. Fortunately, they have few life points and low defence themselves, so most players can kill them pretty fast; this provides you with a steady supply of bones to convert to peaches for healing, if needed.
Drop Notes
Infernal mages are a good source of elemental and death runes.
Don't bother picking up coin drops here, which are usually under 5 gp each and a waste of your time.
Note that the earth and water runes used (to cast Bones to Peaches) came from drops, but I did not subtract them from the drop log totals. Also, I think five mystic drops in an hour is well above average...
